Yup, I got one as a present to myself for surviving a surgery. Life is short and I'm determined to have a good time this spring. I've had the GF-1 for a year and just sold it to a friend so I could defray the cost of the X100. This thing beats the pants off the GF-1 in all areas IMO. The viewfinder is such a treat. I'm not going to stop shooting film anytime soon but it's nice to have a high quality compact digital as well.

I had decided I wasn't going to buy the X100 when it came out here in Japan but instead wait until reviews where out and the verdict was in.

Then I got to play with one at my local camera store...sold. Similar feeling to when I handled my first RF.
 
The camera is just now coming out. You have plenty of time to save up. Maybe it will be a bit more, but it will also be a bit more refined by that time.

Have had mine for a month or so. It's a brilliant little camera. Files are stunning. Response is immediate and I've never heard anything quieter.

Unfortunately, Fuji UK will dispatch a van on the morrow to fetch mine for repair as the viewfinder shutter has gotten stuck halfway which is a shame as I need it on Friday to shoot a republican street party in response to the royal wedding. Will have to fall back on my trusty D200 and old primes and perhaps my Olympus Pen for some hd video.

Funny thing is my lens hood for the X100 is due to arrive tomorrow as I send the thing away for repair. I'll miss it. It really is a superb piece of kit for a street lensman like me. I hugely recommend it.

Very nice selection Paul. It really shows what can be done with a 'quirky' instrument.

Mostly what I see from this camera is it's ability to perform in situations that I would like to use it.

I'm just awaiting the arrival.

No plans to buy one, or any other digital camera at the moment. My existing digital camera still works well enough.

Next photographic purchase will probably be a 35mm lens and finder for my IIIf.
 
User review in today's NY Times (click on any story and an image of the X100 should come up in a sidebar). I thought it was merely an ad for the camera, but it can't be as the owner of the camera (sounds like an amateur) points out some of its faults, some of which I was unaware. Also post some pics, one of which - probably a photograph of his son - is a good indicator of how good the camera is at portraiture.

Dodgy reviewers haven't a clue

So many people are too quick to point out the camera's faults. I've found that the X100 can be configured so many different ways as to suit just about every photographer. Too many of the reviews I've read that criticised the camera clearly didn't read the manual. So many things on the unit can be enabled or disabled as preferences dictate allowing the camera to be accurately customised. Mine works super fast and completely silently. No lingering picture reviews after exposure. No shutter sound. No AF searching. Immediate restart. No automatic switching between OVF and screen as that just made me nuts so I turned it off. Simple. For my pro use I have it completely pared down to the minimum. Lightening quick and quiet. No need for all the bells and whistles which are all activated as factory default. You just need to spend time setting the thing up to your way of working and there are 3 custom settings if you want them. I don't bother.

Ha! My wait is over. I picked mine up from Henry's in Ottawa this afternoon. The store only got 2 cameras and I was #1 on their list. Just charging the battery and reading the manual.
