Just got my Canon P <big smile>

I love me some Canon P's. I'm on my 4th or 5th now, have sold some on here. They are great cameras, in my opinion the BEST Leica mount (LTM or M) Japanese camera. Tons of personality, rugged, heavy, beautiful. Very nice control layout as well, almost a straight Leica M copy on the top deck.

My current setup is listed in my signature. I Just recently "discovered" the Canon VI-L, and wish i had done so earlier, or maybe i would have been able to find one cheap before leaving Japan (a few weeks from now).

The L1 is pretty nice too, if you can't find a VL.

I got a Canon P this week as well. Overall it is a clean camera, but the shutter is not working properly, the curtains stop about 2/3 of the way across the opening. I'll pull it apart and see if I can fix the problem, hopefully it's nothing to complicated.

auctions, my friend. Better yet, the little mom and pop camera stores. I got a p with a 50/1.4 and a case for $200 a couple years ago.

stupid leica--check your PM inbox.

I like the P, and use it not so much since falling for my M2. The P's rewind knob opening up at odd times, as noted by "flip" above, does drive me nuts. Easy loading is a a big bene.

I am just the opposite, using the Canon P all time, and never touching the M2 (acquired as the rear cap on a 35/1.8 Nikkor in LTM). I used the M2 a couple of times, but haven't touched it since. I should probably sell it.

Steve, getting a camera that you like to use is very good.
Canon P is about the only Canon that I'm proud to have.

If you Jupiter 8 is clear as a bell, and the mechanics are moving smoothly, I don't know of any "high-class" lens that can best it by far, in all honesty. Mine is pretty much staying on the Canon P until someday maybe a Canon 35/2 floats by to unseat it (I prefer 35mm to 50mm focal length).

Plus the look on my Canon DSLR shooting buddies upon seeing a vintage camera with Canon on the front, is priceless. They couldn't quite make up their mind on what it is. 😀
