Just got this C-44R

Found this at a flea market today and bought it for $35. It included the 100mm telephoto lens in additon to the standard 50mm lens (not pictured). Also came with a leather case for the telephoto and for the camera. Seems to be in very nice condition. Everything seems to work. Will know for sure once I shoot a roll of film through it.

Golly Jim that camera looks to be in superb condition! After you run some film through it post some of the pictures, I'd like to see how it performs!

Does the R also have the same horrible lens mount system as the C-44?

I am not sure if it is the same but the bayonet lens mount system on this camera was very easy and quick to switch lenses. As good and fast as any modern camera.

Congrats on the C-44R. I have a standard C-44 and it really is a nice perfomrer, great vintage feel. I have the same lens set. 50 and 100mm and I am still looking for a 35mm to round it out. I've never had a problem switching lenses on the C-44. It is certainly a good sight easier than the C-3. That one is a mess. Show us some pictures once you've shot a roll.

Yes, the same questionable bayonet mount.

The "R" suffix indicates a double-stroke lever wind and crank-type rewind.

Non-suffix cameras are knob-winds.

I have both C-44 R and C-4 R cameras.


So far, I have not had any difficulties with the bayonet lens mount on my C-44R, but I can see where it could cause trouble if you were not giving it your undivided attention during lens-changing... ( lots of "planets to align"... 😉 )

At least there's not the potential for RF mis-calibration that is possible with a C-3 / C-4 Geiss-mount...

I had one once with the 35, 50, and 100. Lovely camera, sharp lenses. Wish I had kept it.

But, what the heck. I can't keep them all.
