The lens is a personal favourite. You were lucky to get one. Enjoy!
I hope so
Many thanks l will put a few rolls through determine if it needs a clean

I bought one a few years ago at a local shop and got a deal as it was hazy. Five minutes work and it was clean as a whistle.
These peaked at about $700 a few years ago. They are the fast Sonnar bargain now!
Are they easy to unscrew what tools will l need

You just need a lens spanner. Come in from the back. Easy peasy.

The three Canon Sonnar lenses that I have are 35/1.5....... 50/1.5....... and 85/1.5.
The 35/1.5 and the 85/1.5 both have been referred to as "dogs", which is inaccurate. They are fine lenses.

They do stunning work, but are absolutely rammed at present.

Here I compare the Canon 1.4, 1.5, and 1.8 LTMs at 3 apertures. Below is the Canon 1.5 at F2.8

Are there any canon L39 lenses that do not have the annoying infinity lock, for use on a Canon 7, or can you recommend another brand that does not have the infinity lock? Looking for a 35 or 50mm.

The lock on the 1.5 is pretty easy to remove.

Had not realised the Canon 50 1.5 piece was dropping. Grab one or two before they get “discovered” by an “Influencer” again. I am fond of mine.

This lock is disableable. No parts needed, just disassemble and re-assemble as disabled
No parts needs to be removed.

I got my very clean copy a few years ago from a member here (thanks, again, Roland!), and shoot it on my IVSB2 and my M2. Took it to France this past summer and it performed like a champ. Really a wonderful lens, and not just for portraits.
