I am a new owner of an old kiev 4a that is missing a take-up spool. Does anyone out there have the real thing. I have a makeshift one in it now.

I will gladly pay a fair price Hopefully there is one here in the US.

Although I don't have a take-up spool, I found one simple (or hard) solution when I owned Kiev 4 without fixed take-up spool. I took my parents bag with 70's photos and negatives and found there used cassettes from Orwochrome film. Just open the cassette and here you have the take-up spool.
The solution is gonna be hard, though, if you don't have a bag of 70's photos :)

I was lucky and found a pair of Contax film cassettes in the junk bin of a local camera shop. I'm using the spool out of one of them in my 4a.
I'm using a roll-your-own spool in my Kiev 4 because the Contax spools are too long and you can't close the back.

I've got a makeshift take-up spool made from an old film casette take-up spool.

I've noticed that the comstruction of the Kiev spool allows the film to double back through the spindle.

Dear Friend,
I STRONGLY recommend you to buy this type and nothing else:

With the double cut your film will be secured more than with anything else. Besides, this is "the real thing".

Cheers,
Ruben

Thanks Ruben- I have Alex bookmarked permanently, he is a very good seller. I almost bought from that very listing last night but decided to wait to order more from him so that the shipping is worth the cost and the wait.

Also, when I first saw the "double cut" I understood immediately why it was better.

Cheers-
Bob

Some of us are more lucky than the others... I guess contax cassettes only work with older Kiev (II, IIa etc).
Otherwise, you keep your film spool (prefferably not kodak 'cause film is only stuck on it) when you process your next film, take a pair of cissors and cut the film leader so as to get a CENTRAL film leader instead of a "side" one. That's all. Wind and let's go.
Have fun
