Killing Bill

I wonder if Bill will be selling any F.I.D. T-shirts or baseball caps.
I'd buy one.

R.J.,

I'd think that this is the kind of DEVELOPMENT that would suit Bill's NEGATIVE attitude toward film and it's users.

Those of us who are too UNDER-EXPOSED to the enlightened reality and knowledge of a sage like Bill are doomed to dwell in a DARK ROOM all by ourselves.

After all, we keep trying to DODGE reality and refuse to BURN in our hearts the knowledge that film is dead.

Film, may it RIP, is destined to be remembered perhaps only on that lame site known as APUG!

I am sorry for having EXPOSED my sadness in this way.

Kindest regards,
philm

Bill is the kind of person who hijacks threads and denies others the right to post in them..

Guys like Brian (Sweeney) and Tony (TPPhotog) are a bigger loss..

The rules of this site apply to ALL. You and every other member would be "defended" in exactly the same way. 😉

I see my posts in this thread were deleted. Bill (or whatever his name is) obviously still has moderators defending him on RFF.

This is strange. A lot of RFers have departed this forum in the past few months, some making more farewell noises than others as they went out the door... but only a certain individual seems to warrant a whole thread dedicated to him. 😉

Far greater losses have occurred within this RF community, and they have apparently gone unnoticed. It seems that this place, as everywhere else, only takes notice of the brashest and loudest. It has always puzzled me why people here put B.M on a pedestal. True, he had opinions, and he was very well-informed on SOME issues (but not all), and he was a very active member, to the extent that any thread about film "revivals" was always graced by his sceptical presence telling everyone else just how ignorant they are. 😉

I think in any forum, a little courtesy, politeness and HUMILITY go a long way in making the place pleasant for everybody else. Maybe I'm alone in this -- maybe others prefer a little less sugar and a bit more spice -- but frankly, I've had enough of that rubbish in real life, so to encounter the same lack of civility and lack of respect in photographer's forums (my little escapism for the day) is really quite disheartening. Why bother coming here at all if it is going to increase one's stress levels? Why indeed! 😀

I don't think the losses have gone unnoticed. There are several posts in this thread showing regret at their departure. The lack of "noise" is perhaps human nature. We tend to "highlight" certain characters that are more extreme in others to either justify or hide them in ourselves.

I couldn't agree more. I think most come for relaxation and to exchange ideas. Some will always come for the excitement. You don't have to take part or even read all the threads. At the end of the day, the easiest way to stop the trolls is not to feed them. 😉

First and foremost I take the words of Kim about the clean proceeding by which Bill was approached by moderators and Jorge, to the attention of all those feeling pushed or/and insulted or/and hijacked by MY FRIEND BILL. This is another proof of how good is to ventilate this type of issues in public, from time to time. Bill remains a member of RFF and able to contribute whenever he feels time has come to. In conclusion, Bill has taken a so far a break.

Some friends here have pointed to have been hurt by Bill. Upon further action by me I have found more than basis for these claims. I do also remember a thread about a new Rollei film, in which Bill was somewhat abusive of the microphone and not allowing some German or Swiss members to say what they knew about it. I remember myself openly calling Bill to order, and having a positive result by him, for the thread. I do not know if those members felt hurt or not.

Furthermore, I disliked the shutted mouths avatar campaign in protest against Jorge and the moderators during the recent row of members expulsions. At that time I was in intensive PM exchange with the moderators and Jorge, calling for utmost tolerance, and I felt Bill's attitude was quite anarquist, although he was not alone there, not suiting a responsible attitude for the amount of microphone time he allways allocated himself.

But all these taken into account doesn't summ up Bill, just a part of him. Bill, as perceived by me was not only a mighty RFF input member, but a very warm character too. I do remember, among other positive things, that after my bitter clash with our friend Greyhoundman, I asked Bill via PM a technical question, to which he answered me he doesn't know but perphaps comrade Greyhoundman may know. Suddenly I get a PM from Greyhoundman offering his help. This was Bill too, and perhaps much more I may be ignorant of.

So confronted by the requirement to change some of his manners, Bill took the original way of accepting himself as he is, implying the need for all of us either to accept him as he is, or not. The whole of it, the good and the bad.

Here I find myself in front of a deep emotional dilemma since, in spite of my deep symphaty to Bill, I cannot ignore those members hurt out there. Do you, Bill, want to ignore them ? They exist and have written receipts.

I myself am not conciliated with my own negative sides, and hope to die in this spirit of inner rebellion. BTW I openly call every member feeling unproperly treated by me to kindly call my attention to it, since I am willing to swallow the bitter beverage of accepting I make mistakes, due to be redressed. This beverage, no matter the taste, never failed me. It keeps my nose above the water.

No member here should feel hurt and no one here has the right to hurt. No me nor any body. I don't need the RFF to use it, take advantage of, or advance my petty photo career. I do want the people here to flourish, all of them, every single member, big mouths and shy mouths, in all aspects of our common house, and my own flourishing being just the innertia result.

I was planning on joining Bill's site. Oh well, I think I'd rather just keep my head buried in the sand. I'll just be here using film, paying more and more for film/processing until that day comes when FID. (I'd put a "smiley" here but they don't seem to work)

I got the e-mail version of your post, Andy. I read the thread on APUG. Thanks. They have some serious pros posting on that site. Someone just called someone else a "Troll." Who is Kino?

i'm about ready to close this thread.
as far as i'm concerned there are too many old ladies on this site with too much time and an obsession for bill, who no longer posts here.

and if you continue to criticize the moderation here or quote that criticism, then perhaps there are other internet forums that would welcome that sort of thing but it's getting tired here and getting there fast.

i hope this is clear.

joe, with all due respect - didn't Jorge say that this Off-Topic forum was open for anything as long as there were no profanities used? He even mentioned 'flame away!'.

To close down an off-topic thread because a moderator doesn't like the topic doesn't seem very consistent with the previous guidelines.

If people enjoy talking about Bill - why not let them? What's the difference between that and talking about soccer or anything else?

Just my $0.02.

i might have shot myself in the foot here as i moved this thread into this section...

ok, fine. you can all be as annoying as you like.

but i reserve the right to edit any nasty comments about the moderation.

Rich,
I do remember that post. BTW, can you remember how long ago it was posted? His words were The only exception is the forum "And now for something completely different" you can insult each other there and have flame wars. But again, do not use vulgar language or the thread will be deleted. You can insult each other there without fear of being banned.

Since then he has he has made several other posts on the subject including these words But, at the same time there are some who practice a form of hostility which will not be tolerated here. More recently he has introduced the "Golden Rules". AFAIK, although he originally said you could flame in here, I don't remember him granting an exemption to any of the other rules. 😉
