Kodak Ektar 100

...

So, to recap: B & H really, truly has Ektar 100. If you want it, there it is, go and get it. (And, I won't quote that Badfinger song again...at least not tonight). ;)

I can confirm that they truly do have it - I got 10 rolls online, and they are on their way to me here in Istanbul, Turkey  Hope to get them soon and being able to check them out & post something in a week or so :D

photo4ls, I have a roll in my PentaxP3n, the camera that has the best onboard meter that I have. And today, I went to my friend's vineyard and photographed the harvest. Too bad it was almost raining. 36 exposures is a lot to get though. I still live in hope that Kodak will do 24 exposures, and 120, please.

Charjohncarter,
I prefer 24exp. myself and 36 is a lot
to shoot when I use B&W mostly in
my M3. There is going to be a Indian
heritage event this Saturday so I guess
this will be a good test for this film. I may
use the Nikon FM3a and 45 p lens. What
ya think. :)

Yep, the UPS package has cleared customs here in Oz and is in the truck on it's way to my office! Yay!

2nd for 120, and 24 shots in 35mm.

If the 1st batch of 35mm-36 sells out like it seems to, will that be enough to prompt further products?

I was going to buy a half dozen rolls....but the shipping was set for $26 to Canada. Give me a break. I get packages sent all the time.....for a box that size, it's about $7 shipping.

I hate being gauged in shipping. I'll wait until I can get some locally.

The shipping is the same ripoff for things sent here (Oz), starts at $35-$40 for the box, but doesn't change that much as you add more in. Must be a UPS thing, "cubic weight" measurements and all that.

I usually stack the order up until the freight is under $1/roll. Sounds expensive I know, but compared to paying $12-$15 per roll here in the shops, still saving 50%.

Since Ektar 100 falls under Kodak's "Pro" designation, I sort of doubt we'll see 24-exposure rolls anytime soon (and at about $4.50 a roll at the moment, I'm not griping too much). As far as seeing Ektar 100 1n 120 goes, I'd say it's a long-shot. Perhaps Kodak regards this film, like Kodachrome, to sort of an "equalizer" for 35mm vis-a-vis 120 and its extra "real estate." (As a 35mm-only shooter, I can only smile...but then again, were any of the previous slow-speed Ektar films, including 25, available in 120? I honestly don't remember.)

While reading all the post about Ektar samples,
mostly everyone said Kodak would not be sending
any samples. I guess you should be patient
since I got a 36 exp. roll today from them. Has anyone
else received any ?

Nelson

I wrote them twice and also joined their Pro website, but they said they are`nt giving any samples away now, who did you talk to or write to????
They told me that they were only giving them away at camera shows/expo`s etc. I don`t think I`m living close enough to any big camera shows, there`s nothing going on here in Florida....

Barrett, I hope you are wrong about 120, but then again when I shot Tmax100 in 35mm I sometimes wonder why I bother with using it in medium format. I'm taking my first roll of Ektar 100 to Long Beach this weekend. I'm excited because it's like going the Berkeley,CA, but instead of hippie bums there are beach bums with all there colorful trappings (and definitely the hippie bums are not as colorful).

I hope I'm wrong, too, 35mm chauvinism aside. ;) Rochester is likely being cautious about its releases, and, since they'e rationalized their production resources over the last few years (example: when I picked up my five rolls of Ektar at B & H, I also wanted to pick up some Portra 160NC; the guy at the counter told me they were completely out of Portra, save for Portra 800, which I ended up getting a little of), they're probably taking a wait-and-see stance.

Another thought: since some of the technology behind Ektar 100 is an offshoot of Kodak's motion-picture film arm, it was probably an easier move to release in 35mm than 120. If they think it's a good business ft for them, they'll do it. But, their 120 portfolio is pretty full with good stuff, including the improved Portra, so they might not think Ektar in 120 is worth the effort. Time will tell.

P.S. I gave galfriend one of my rolls of Ektar tonight. She's quite happy.

I've shot a roll of Ektar 100 its a really nice film! By far the easiest color film to scan. The colors are really nice and saturated. I've ordered 5 more rolls to shoot. I've got an image posted on my site its the very first image. Hope to you dig.

This is timely. I don't shoot a lot of color, but I did just finish off my last roll of 100UC.
BH not accepting orders for anything at the moment.
I just placed an order through Adorama.

Hey John,
I'm just going to miss you in long beach. I'll be flying in to Santa Ana on Sunday. I might have dinner at Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles Sunday night in Long Beach.

My first roll - sorry SLR (EOS 630, Olympus OM 21mm F3.5).

Steve, how long are going to be there, I won't get in until late Sunday? But if you are going to be around for a while it would be fun to do something, even if it is just Breakfast. I'll have my car, and too much photo gear.

John
