Hiya,
Since Kodachrome bit the big one last July and has been dwindling since (I have 3 rolls left...) I have really been trying to find a replacement. None of the Fuji stuff cut it from my testing, but I did give Elite Chrome 100 (EB-3) a go. I have been using Elite Chrome 100 Extra Colour (ok...Color
) in preference to Velvia for some time now, and I have really fallen in love with EB-3. It's quite like Kodachrome, in some ways I like it more because it's easier to get processed, I can use Digital ICE on it. It also seems to have all the pop and rich dark shadows:

McDonalds, Elder Gate, CMK - Olympus OM2n, Elite chrome 100, Zuiko 28mm f/3.5
Does anybody else use it here, let's see some of your stuff! I really like shooting this film in my M2 and OM2. I think it's very much like E100G, but cheaper. A very overlooked slide film in my opinion, one I have increasingly liked more than Fuji personally. Ektar comes close but it has 'something' about it that isn't as close to Kodachrome as Elite Chrome is.

Enjoy Life.
There is also a "saturated" version of EliteChrome (or was) that you might enjoy. The slide film I really miss is E100GX, loved the warmer colors.
Glad you like the film, enjoy!

Vicky,
I am also very pleased with the results; however, I do not find the film as saturated as in your pic.
Cheers,
Uwe

I really like this stuff too. I wish it was in 120 but we can't have everything:

shawows blue?
shawows blue?
Are the shadows going blue? I can't tell with a computer monitor. If so how blue. Please compare this to other films.. Kodachrome, Astia..etc.
Thanks, p.

I always found it went a bit magenta, and adjusted the processing (Tetenal) accordingly.

Thanks Roger. The local E6 labs here are gone. And the city of SF prohibits any one holding a business lincense (photographer) having a darkroom. Schools and amateurs are exempt. So, I need to find a lab that runs enough film to have decent (fresh) chemistry. I may just deal with Dwayne's. They have been running my Kodachrome for the past few years.

I don't see any blue shadows with Elitechrome. When they are projected they are a dream. Elitechrome isn't as nice as Kodachrome in my opinion, but as I only have one roll left of Kodachrome I decided to try Elitechrome. All these Fuji and Kodak chromes are, I think, very good. We should consider ourselves lucky we have them.

I thought Ektar was it for me until I saw the results from Elite Chrome. Two shots from the same roll of film - Bonita Beach, Florida
I was trying to capture the "green flash" at sunset. Missed, but got this one.
I took this shot planning to convert it to B&W and applying different software filters (I'd just read Barry Thornton's "Elements in Transition").

Wow, I just learned to do my own C-41 with Ektar and now this... The fun is endless. I haven't projected a slide since the 1970s.. might have to give it a try. Nice work and thanks..

I thought Kodachrome could only be developed at one place? Didn't they close that down yet?

They have stopped Kodachrome manufacture but development will keep going until November or December, can't remember the exact date.

Is there any way to develop it after they shut that plant down? You know someone is going to horde a few rolls past that date...

Here is a photo taken at 3300m last year just after Typhoon Morakot.
(I can no longer figure out how to embed photos on flickr here at RFF!)

There are still hundreds and hundreds of rolls for sale on eBay. Unless those sellers are planning on keeping some undeveloped rolls as a collector's item, they've got to sell it or shoot it! There is no way to develop this stuff at home and Dwayne's will likely be the last lab in the world to process it. (I believe there is/was a lab in Europe doing it as well this year, but that one may have already ceased.) It's a completely different process than E6/C41 - it can't even be cross-processed.
As to this first image, apart from the European license plates (and a couple of car models), that could easily be in the US!

Dwayne's has been the only game in town since at least last year. My local lab stopped being able to do K-14 3 or 4 years ago.I believe there is/was a lab in Europe doing it as well this year
