large 'm6' variation rarity?

how rare is the m6 variation where only a large 'm6' is engraved on the front? what date and serial# range?

Mine is 172xxxx which was manufactured in 1987 according to http://www.cameraquest.com/mtype.htm

No, nothing on top, and "LEICA GMBH GERMANY" on the back.

interesting...this variation isn't on the cameraquest page.

googling the 'LEICA GMBH GERMANY' engraving gave me some serial numbers. 1726xxx–1755xxx. so at least '87–'88.

I don't think the large M6 is considered rare, uncommon perhaps, certainly don't pay more for such a body than you would for a "Leica M6" in similar state.

I had one just like that, as far as I recall was from the transition. Had some things from the Pre solm and som post solms. Light meter was the older type.
