During the last week of summer I decided to try to capture the feel of late summer in Sydney at the beach (which is where all Sydney seems to head at that time of year, it's both hot and humid.. and is also where I live). This year the beaches were extra crowded with spectators for the Australian Open of Surfing Championships at Manly beach.

Principal camera of choice was my Leica IIIc with Color-Skopar 35mm f2,5 LTM - I chose the IIIc because it's small and easy to carry, and it seemed fitting to use Oskar Barnack's camera for the sort of photography it excels at. Almost all the photos are scale focus, taken at f11 with shutter speed the reciprocal of film box speed.

I experimented with a number of films - BW400CN, Plus-X, TMAX100, Tri-X and Fomapan 200. Although this invites some inconsistency in the look, I didn't want to exhaust my supplies of any one emulsion. Post processing can to some extent compensate for differences in film, and there is something to be gained for a bit of variety.

Feeling adventurous I also took some photos with a few vintage folders, mainly the Perkeo II 6x6 and Bessa II and Adox Start 6x9s.

I've put many of these photos in the Gallery but thought I'd collate them in a thread to give some coherence to the series. Photos are not displayed in chronological order but almost all were taken in the last week of summer, with a few taken in the last month.

I hope you enjoy the series. Please feel welcome to comment. Please do not add your own pictures to this thread, as it's meant to display this series only.

I will add more pictures to the thread as I develop and process a small backlog of film, both 35mm and 120.

I really like the Plus X shot ... such a good film. BW400CN is a great film also but to me it almost has a slight digital look to it.

Great idea for a series Lynn. :)
