Late model M8 serial numbers?

When I got mine the dealer had 3,19x,xxx and 3,32x,xxx in stock, all legit USA-warranty models. I took the later batch #.

Hi All,

I just came across a Silver (USA) M8 with serial number starting at 333xxxx.....

I wonder if anyone else has seen any USA Silver M8's that high. I don't specifically recall but I think it still may have had firmware 1.107.....not 1.108 .

I may ask this in another thread but I wonder what would happen if someone received a camera with firmware 1.108 (which is supposedly specific for the M8's with the new mother boards...and by mistake flashed it with the current (on Leica's website) 1.107 ...since I'm not sure 11.107 is supposed to be for the new M8's with the new motherboards.

Hi,

Yes, 1.107 is the latest firware posted on Leica's USA website...but aren't the latest M8's being released in the States (after July 2007) coming with firmware 1.108 ..or has that only been in other parts of the world?

Leica sent out an email that there is an update, but if you have 1.107, 1.108 not available in the U.S. and does not replace 1.107. 1.107 is the latest US firmware update. 1.108 does not add anything. It is for Europe or other parts of the world only. If your camera comes with 1.108 great, leave it. There will be further updates.

Hi Keith,

Thanks for your response. I think I possibly didn't phase my question clearly. I realize 1.108 is not available as a firware upgrade on the Leica USA website and not for cameras made prior to July 2007.

What I was trying to inquire about was whether there have been any conformed reports of any USA M8's sold recently in the U.S. coming with 1.108 already
pre-installed?

It is for cameras in the States as well, it will be factory installed on all cameras delivered (to the dealers) after October 1st. It cannot be downloaded from the website. The only difference to 1.107 is that it includes a switch for the latest type of CCD board, which had to be replaced due to a change by the supplier. It does not the performance of the camera at all, in fact it would support the cameras with the previous component as well. A new firmware ( 1.11?) will hopefully come late November which can be used for all M8's

The 1.108 firmware is for the newest cameras, wherever they are sent. It is not a geographic thing. There are 'new' components in the camera, and therefore the firmware is changed, but that is due to the older components no longer being available, and not due to an upgrade. It has to do with supplier batching. Future firmware upgrades will update both 1.107 and 1.108 versions equally, to the same future version.

The 1.108 firmware lets you know that the camera is from the most recent batch, but nothing further should be read into this.

FWIW, a camera I know of with sn 3198xxx has 1.108 firmware.

Just out of curiosity, I wonder what would happen if someone received a 1.108 firmware camera and in their enthusiasm, quickly wanted to download the latest firmware from the Leica website and downloaded and installed 1.107? Would the camera accept it or would a warning message be seen on the LCD?
