Later Black Canon 50mm f1.8 - How to Separate Helical?

I was just wondering if anyone has any experience separating the helical on this lens. I have gotten to the point where I have removed the optics module and the black aluminum focusing ring. However, I can not figure out for the life of me how to separate the two brass rings that make up the focusing helical. This is the main reason for disassembly, as the focus on this lens is gritty. Any tips? Thanks a lot.

Have a look here, Eric: http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=105901. Black 50/1.8 and 50/1.4 are very similarly built. Once black/alu focusing ring are off, you need to remove another brass span ring, if I remember right.

Look for the focus guides...2 screws each, mark your inner and outer helicals with a good set of scribes for reassembly

I would ask if it is an early or late FD..lock rings differ
