I agree with you. I was having a more critical look at the bad prints with the intention of seeing if i could return it for a better copy. I was looking online for comparative examples of some of the prints and found that the online ones from MOMA look the same as the ones in the book, so I now accept that the book prints are accurate reproductions of the originals. An example of what I'm on about is page 65 "Billingsgate Porter". The print has an overall greyish look, low contrast, weak blacks. An online search shows some examples with good blacks however the MOMA website version looks the same as the book.I bought this too, right after seeing the show at the MOMA. I noted the powdery feel on several pages. But, with that said, I have to say that the print in the book matches very closely the images as they look hanging on the wall in MoMA. I don't know what the powdery texture on some of the pages comes from, but I was pleased with how closely the book matches the prints in person.
Brandt varied his printing very greatly over his career. In some cases, he would drastically change how he printed the same negative over time, sometimes confessing he could not stand the earlier versions. So, don't expect a "consistent" look.

Really happy with the book so far.
Park/Sleep by Robert Frank
Valencia 1952 by Robert Frank
Park/Sleep is the latest in the 'Tal UF Tal Ab' and 'You Would' series, which is a kind of random photo diary that you'll probably either love or loathe (not many photographers could get away with this!). Valencia 1952 is part of the series of books that show the early photos, including Peru, Paris and London/Wales.
