In mf mode I use the af/al lock approach anyway and only maybe 5-10% of the time am I in mf mode.. So by the way I use the camera, it is for me a non-issue.
If I were a mf focusing ring and peaking user, it would be a different story.

seem to remember other people with macs having a problem where the .DAT file extension was being renamed or modified
I was having this problem just now. The file kept getting renamed to "FPUPDATE.DAT.DAT" and its size was bigger than it should have been. Then I tried downloading it with Safari instead of Chrome, and it worked perfectly. The ways of computers are mysterious indeed.

"Problem" with X100 V2.0
My desk sits before a window, and often, while wasting time, I take random shots of the front yard: birds in the bushes, deer that wander through, the occasional black bear. However, after loading the new firmware, the closer focusing AF insists on focusing on the screen, anything further requires manual focus.
I need to stop putting off taking down the screens.

iMac user here. I downloaded the upgrade to "downloads." When I tried to open it, it said I have no app for that, and I should download one or select one that I have.
I have no idea. What should I do? How do I do it?

did you transfer it from the computer to an sd card?
then sd card into camera?

As Joe said. You are not opening it -just transferring it to a formatted SD card. Drag and drop, cut and paste, whatever works for you -just no click as to open.

I had the same problem after downloading. What worked was using the option "open in finder" at the bottom of the download list. Then I was able to drag the file onto the desktop and continue. I hope this makes sense.

An M3 is still better MF camera.....but this is not the point. it is a good progress including faster AF and nice move for fuji to support x100 owners with this.

OK I see my mistake. I was assuming I was supposed to "open" it. Apparently there's no need, or it's the camera that does the opening. I was just trying to get it from "downloads" over to the desktop (the instructions say it has to be on the desktop). I'll try dragging it over.
I take it there's no way to just download to the camera directly via a USB cable? I think my iMac has a card reader. It has something an SD card fits into, at any rate.

Yay! I did it! Right there's nothing to open. I just dragged the file to the desktop, stuck the card in the hole, dragged the file over top of the card's icon, and it was done.
Thanks, guys.

Forgive me my OT statement, but I did read these latest posts with a longer chuckle. Always supposed Apple products are so much intuitive to use: But exactly the "iMac whatever users" demonstrate again problems just loading a single file to a memory card.

It has nothing to do with Apple. I just didn't know what I was doing, never had to do that before. It was really easy.
Yes, Apple is very intuitive. I have moments when I am not.

Is the focus ring travel same as on X100s now?
do not have an X100s to comment, but the response is much better. before the focus ring would be much slower in the dark than before. but i wouldn't classify it as linear or proportional to the movement in the dial. be aware of the focus shifting in certain situations as pointed out in the bug thread.

isn't this good? meaning the AF is more sensitive to before?

Exactly! The "problem" is that I can't put off taking down the screens any longer!

This is a very nice answer.[...]Yes, Apple is very intuitive. I have moments when I am not.
And don't get me wrong: My post wasn't addressed to you than rather to all the similar posts running also elsewhere, every time a new update is out to load.

loving the Focus peaking highlight
MF is excellent
AF closer, now about 6 inches from subject
AF in a dark room is brill
Yep. Great not to need MF or Macro to focus close. Quick in the dark with no hunting. All settings gone of course. I kept mine in a file but I remember the important ones, through so many fine firmware updates. I've had a new lens and a whole new camera from Fuji so I love this firm. The new upgrade makes the X100, already good, a whole lot better.

Quite apart from making the camera a joy to use the firmware update seems to have solved an exposure issue on my X100. I bought it second hand with v1.3 and it's always exposed erratically, especially over exposing. I thought it was the sticky shutter thing but it seems to be fixed after v2.0. Anyone heard that happening?
Anyway, I'm now totally in love with this camera.
