Leica 35mm Summilux Steel Rim

Your complaint about the lens cap of you brand new steel rim seems to be a thing with modern Leica lenses. The nice cap of the revival Summaron M 28 is ridiculously loose. It’s amazing I haven’t lost it. Like what gives? Should be replaced for free or the lens should come with three or four of them.

I hate my version 2 wide open. If the new one is still so glowy I’m not interested.
of course it is. If you hate the look so much it was kind of goofy that you bought it with this well known attribute, especially when there are so many other 35 lenses that don't have the glow. Unlike you, MANY others like that glow.

Very odd.

I had the type 2 serial started with 262 in the 1980’s
I found on that one that 2.8 and smaller was sharp clean clear
At f2 it was still excellent
At 1.4 there was some loss of contrast that made it appear to be less sharp - although it was mainly the contrast
I sent it to Leica for service
The front coating was uneven but still good
Thier solution was to polish the coating off
The glass
It was not the same after that

I was going to buy the pre-asph version but Ye talked me out of it and convinced me to get the re-issue which I did, a 12/23 manufacture date. It’s flawless, and really my favorite lens went shot wide open because of the glow effect.

I own two SR reissues, one V2 canadian extra glowy, one Titanium and one Germany. I don’t particularly appreciate the glow stuff, kinda ruined many moments… but then whi cares.

My upcoming book contains 145 images frim the past 30 years, and funny is the fact that all images have been shot with almost all mu lenses. Images from the 35 cron V1, V2, V4, lix pre asph v2 cabadian, german, titanium, asph… and the SR of course. Here it is:

I fail to understand why people buy a lens whose well known characteristic is glow when shot wide open, and then complain about it.

Look, the “wide open” thing is a fad mainly defining amateurs and wanbabes.

In general, nornal shooting conditions will hold you anywhere vetween f2.8 and f8.

Shooting wide open in subdued light will look good because the light denands it.

Shootibg wide open in strong light reeks ugliness and screams amateurism.
A wide open inage should necer scream WIDE OPEN. If it does, it’s missed.
