gilpen123, that a good price for the elmar. When I was looking, it seemed that chromes were more difficult to find and went for a higher price.

My Canon 50 1.4 with adapter is mounted the same way as yours.

I pushed the button it's the Elmar-M 2.8. I'll use the canon for those times that I need it. It's quite heavy though and the focusing tab is not as smooth as I would like it to be. Thank you for all the replies. Btw, the elmar is in chrome EX+ with caps and hood from a reputable used camera dealer with a $ 40 difference vs the Hex.

I've been looking all over for the Hex as I was researching the Elmar in the net. I was writing Konika Hex 50 2.0 in the search window of Ebay but not getting results the last few days. Anyway I opted to get the Elmar.
Btw, the sentence was taken out of context, you may need to read the whole before you interpret the wrong way. The looks is just one of the merits as in the full sentence I wrote below:
"I love the looks of the M3 with a chrome Elmar and from what I've been reading, this lens performs well in the area of sharpness and flare."
That is the reason why I opted to ask the forum which I believe can give me the unbiased answers and not to be pilloried for raising it here 😉

It's a great lense and has become my go-to for my MP when I know I'm gonna be back before nightfall...
One thing: may be an idea to use contrasty film - the lense has a lovely old-skool style softness to it that means you can take liberties with the emulsion...

Another vote for the M-Hexanon 50mm f2.0. Very clear and crisp shots, very durable built and handles like a dream. Intermittent click stops, all metal barrel, built-in sun hood. 45 degree focus throw, very quick to focus! Takes 40.5mm filters, easy to find. Brilliant lens! Real value for money. No drawbacks.

As far as I can tell, all the Canon LTM lenses mount with the aperture and distance scale index marks at about 35 degrees to left of top center. I have the 25/3.5, 28/3.5, 35/2.8, 50/3.5 collapsible, 50/1.8, 50/1.5 and 50/1.2 -- so that's a pretty good sample to extrapolate from. 😀

Sudden change of events, I did not realize the card no. I had on file with the dealer just expired last month. Now I need to scan and send the renewed one. I just cancelled the order and got the Hex 50 2.0 instead. Thank you Krosya for leading me to the avaiable Ebay seller. The price they gave is lower than what they had yesterday by a couple of $. And btw I trust Matsuiya ebay store is accurate in their descriptions. Paypal is always an easier transaction when you are buying, refunds are a PITA though. Thanks guys for the great information, I'll keep my eye for an Elmar in the distant future. I also saw 2 pcs. Exc+ 90 2.8 Hex in their site, this is the next in line to research.

I've never seen color fringing like that from an Elmar-M, and I've had two of them. Plus, the flatness of your examples is reason enough to "splurge" on the Elmar-M.
The Elmar-M and the 28/2.8 ASPH are the biggest bargains in M mount lenses ever.

I agree that the Elmar-M is a great lens! I have 3 50s in M mount and this one is non-trade-able or sell-able; I'll hang onto mine unto the ages of ages 😉

Got delivery of the Hex, very nice like new in box. I'm currently finishing a roll of Neopan 400. I'm excited to see the result.

Before the Hex arrived I used the canon 50 1.4 with the M3 this was before I aligned the RF which was off at infinity by a few mm, some sample pics.

Nice pics Gil, the low contrast gives the pictures an "old" feel with nice shadow detail. You didn't tell me you were going to the bay, missed another photo op again 🙂

I know the feeling, the zen of shooting a manual camera like your M3 is indeed very relaxing. Your kids really know how to pose for you 🙂

Buy a period correct 51.9mm Dual Range Summicron. Your photos may look different. The lens will certainly LOOK good on the M3. Decent examples can be had for $300, give or take. Goggles may cost extra.
I own a 1961 DR Summicron. It's a favorite.
