Leica Apologizes With A New M Lens

Not hard at all. Saying that dealers pay is hard to understand.

Even when you and I don't know how this is being done.

Even more so when dealers used this promotion by Leica as a sales pitch to get the M8 before Dec. 31st.

You tell me how hard that is to understand.

This deal doesn't strike me as such a magnanimous gesture on Leica's part. It's not costing them a dime & they get a lens sale that they might not have gotten otherwise. It's an old retailer's game.

Now if Leica had actually sent you something free for your trouble . . . Well, that would have been a nice gesture! 😀

Two UV/IR cut filters, next month 🙂

The ones I chose, I believe they'd cost me altogether about $300, including shipping. It's a good thing I need only two for that size.

Actually I don't give a hoot if Leica screws their dealers out of their profits to give people the 30% discount, and it wouldn't stop me from exercising the option if I was eligible. If the dealers are PO'd it's between them and Leica, but it's contratictory to say how much you (not meaning you personally Ted) like Tony Rose or Rich Pinto and then sanctify Leica when they screw those same guys out of profits on selling lenses, instead of letting the dealers have the business and Leica rebate the 30% direct to customers. I'd be fine with Leica cutting loose their dealer network and sell direct (if they could do it effectively) and split the middlemen profits with us customers.

I have programmed computers for 30 years.

The first IBM PC sold for nearly $5000 in 1982 dollars.

I'd like you to name one computer available to the general public at any time in the short history of computing that has become more valuable.

No "if" about it. I know for a fact that (some) dealers are PO'd.

A local one and a big time one that is well known. Recent dealings with Leica has been a major headache.

Same for the first PC.

Are you saying that if I had a even mint condition 1982 IBM PC that I could sell it for more than $5000 today?

And if not, are you suggesting that you could with that first Mac?
 
We were talking appreciation, Dave.

With your same argument, I can say that there is hardly a single piece of film gear that you can ask for the same amount of money as when you got it new. That's how the used market works.

If you get into collector territory, that's a different story.

To be fair, the 2 free filters are coming out of their pocket (or maybe better put, it isn't immediately obvious that it's coming out of someone else's).

Note that we are talking about computers, not cameras.

That means it is worth more then what it originally costs.

So, yes, are talking about appreciation. See #4.

That means, by your statement, that I can sell some or the other computer for more then its original value.

I agree that a collector (like a museum that needs some rare box to complete a exhibit or some nutty guy who has an original Mac fetish) should not be considered.

So, I merely asked for one applicable example of a computer that has appreciated to back up your original statement.

Okay, if it was off the cuff statement that didn't have a lot of thought behind it, and I am making a mountain out of it, then I apologize...
