Leica Digital M is Finally Here!

Can collapsible lenses fit all the way into the body without damage ? It would make a great pocketable digital RF outfit.

A little early for April. If you look closely at the picture, it is a concoction of many different cameras that do not make operating sense. Terrible Photoshop work. Almost works! Nice try!

Looks like a Sony Walkman I once had that melted in the backseat floorboard of my '68 VW Bug! 😉

Will the shutter be as silent as the analog M? How about the storage media? And how many RPMs does the dial on top measure?

Kinda fun...

There's a French website that shows another clever concoction of a Leica M7 turned digital... and the author wickedly uses a template like the one in the official Leica site. I'm sure it's easy to find with a google search.

Now... dropping this bomb a bit after Photokina would have been fun!

Just a little bit of stupid humor.

Just a little bit of stupid humor.

This is really not that far off from what digital SLR's look like to me. I really think the people at Nikon/Canon/Olympus/etc. design that stuff the way I did: slap and paste in photoshop.

Dear RFF,

I recently purchased the Digital M because someone on the Internet told me it r0xx0rs and the Epson suxx0rs, can you please show me where the r0x button is? Also, I was looking for at least a 10x zoom lens so that I never have to take the lens off, and the guy at the camera store wouldn't sell me the 28-300mm zoom lens on his shelf for my digital M, so where else can I buy one? The camera store guy also told me that I should buy a UV filter to protect my lens and he sold me one for just $100 instead of the rip-off $500 Leica one, and it protects the lens real good since it's made out of clear and shock-absorbant plastic like the bottom of a soda bottle -- but I noticed that there's a little "Coca-cola" logo on it and I was wondering when did they get into the camera business?! And when I took my Digital M home, I charged the battery, put in the memory card, turned it on, and kept pushing all the buttons but it won't display anything on the LCD until after I've already taken the picture -- how am I supposed to aim the camera then with a broken LCD screen? Plus the pictures all look very blurry after I've transferred them to my computer and I think my digital M must have a broken autofocus system since it's backfocusing -- give me a moment and I'll upload some newspaper and ruler pictures to show you. Do any of you have any experience with Leica repair service for replacing broken LCD screens and for recalibrating your Digital M's autofocus?

Oh I heard that Mino-Nik-Can-lymp-tax is coming out with a 100 megapixel camera next month, do you think it will be any better than my digital M? Should I return my Digital M and wait for its replacement? Man, digital makes everything so complicated! Can someone please hope me [sic] with my Digital M?

k thx l8r

The guys down the hall from me at work have a 100Mpixel camera. They built it. It looks better than this. My first digital "camera" had 32 elements that had to scan to get a 32x512 image. It used a 7-track tape drive for storage. It looked better than this. The cat ate my digital camera then brought it up with a hairball. It looks better than this.

You better copyright this, the digital guys will be all over it for the futuristic-retro-advanced-nostolgia look...

Wow, great BOKEH in that test image, really has that Leica glow! Which lens is on it, a Summigigalux? 😱

Wow, that level of perfection could only be achieved with help from the Holga Camera Company, I bet they even shared their ultrasecret plasticus meniscus lens technology with Leica...

Looks like a transporter accident, call Chief O'Brian, he might fix it 🙂

The more I look at this the scarrier it seems. Is it safe to handle? Looks like a highly radioactive mutation of some sort. I know this really isnt a Leica. Its one of those Russian knock of like the Kiev. I think this one is the Chernobyl Special eddition with a little extra on the side.
