You'll be hard pressed to find a dealer willing to open up a fresh box, and then if it's incorrect, keep trying...i know, I tried.
Got it right after 1st try...lucky me.

Although this item is sold as an "eyepiece magnifier" not a diopter adjustment it never the less has an infinitely variable diopter adjustment from minus 3 to plus 1. Sounds like thats what you need. And think about this - if your eyeglass formula changes, you should not need to buy a new eyepiece.

Works fine and costs a couple of hundred bucks. This makes it dearer than a Leica diopter lens - but about half the price of a Leica magnifier. They are available in different magnifications but I suggest getting 1.15 unless you really want to magnify the eyepiece as 1.15 is a minor change. I bought mine as I had this uncertainty about which leica one to get and also liked the idea that if my eyeglass prescription changed over time then all I need to do is rotate the eyepiece a little more. I have had one for 2 years or more on my Leica M8.

BTW I though Leica made -2.5 diopters. I had understood them to be available to -3 in half diopter increments. If you do go down this route - do what someone else said. Go to a pharmacist store and start trying on the non prescription reading glasses till you find one that works best when you look thru the eyepiece. That by definition is the diopter adjustment you need.

PS if you buy the Japan Exposures eyepiece you are advised to put a blob of clear nail varnish or thread locking agent onto the centre thread of the eyepiece - the bit that rotates to vary the diopter. It tends to rotate out of alignment especially if the camera is worn around the neck on a strap and rubs against your chest or tummy. In a worst case scenario the rotating elements could even drop out of the unit and be lost. Has not happened to me but I have found that it rotates out of correct alignment which is slightly annoying.

They say they cannot sell this for use on a camera in the USA due to legal reasons. I do not recall them asking why I purchased it. (I am Australian based however).
