Still, it is pretty cool. Think about it; the aperture stop (the proper term for the stop that limits the bundle of light rays entering an optical system) is larger than the focal length! This is an amazing optical accomplishment. I'm eager to see shots with this lens. The MTFs will be interesting to study as well. That, however, is as close to this rareified class of lens this commentator will ever get.

Apologies.
I should have been more precise in my language. I'm not referring to the actual physical size of the wide stop but to the Effective Aperture of the lens. In this case it is defined by the focal length (50mm) divided by the f-stop (0.95) and here equals 52.63mm and is therefore larger than the focal length of the lens.
