Would had loved to have on of these just for fun if they were mass-produced:

Face it folks, Olympus did half frame 35mm much better than Leica. Maitani’s Pen F was brilliant and the lens system grew to about 15 focal lengths from 20mm to 800mm (although I doubt they made more than 20-30 of the 800mm mirror lens.
I have a modest collection of Pen mount Zuikos and a couple of bodies. Since I also use the lenses on micro 4:3 they do double duty.

That is the special edition I’m referring to... since it was designed for filmstrip and archival work

Ah yes, that is what Laney says in his book. I would have thought that a small format rangefinder camera would be the wrong way to approach such tasks. A Leica I on a fixed stand maybe, but a rangefinder?

I've never read a review of the Leica 72 but then I find 36 exposures way too many!

I used to think 24 exposures were a lot and 36... well, insane. The 8 shots on my GW690III seemed just right.

But I wanted an Olympus Pen FT because they are so cool. I thought I'd never finish my 24 (x2) exposure roll, especially in native portrait orientation, but I loaded it anyway and went out for a 10 minute walk. Well... over an hour later I came back with the roll finished, loaded another roll, went out, shot the whole roll. It was so much fun using that camera and the portrait orientation suddenly seemed natural and liberating. I don't think I've ever gone through two rolls that quickly and enjoyably. As for the photos (lab prints) - spectacular.
