It does come with a 6-Month Warranty and a guarantee to be in "Good" working order upon arrival, it is Calumet, so I'm hopeful!
HugoStudio.com is dyeing me a custom orange covering this weekend.
I'll be searching out paint this weekend to gather a few swatches, I'll post those options when I have them, and everyone can help me pick!
Edit: Should I paint the cold shoe? Planning to leave the controls chrome. I am thinking I'll paint the bezel covering the slow speed cavity orange to blend with the top.
With the troubling news of Toms passing, I want to dedicate this project to my friend and mentor.
You inspired a young man many years ago! I want to show my immense gratitude to you for letting me bug you so often with silly questions and goofy inspirations. I'll miss you bud! It's difficult to find the words... you've touched so many hearts in our little community...

If the plating on the accessory shoe is in good shape, leave it chrome.

I have friends in the auto industry who do powder coating, media removal so I could totally use their services to strip a top and bottom plate no problem. The important thing to note is that I also know someone who hydrodips. I've always wanted to do something with it as Ive never really seen anything like it before in the leica world.

I like everything black, except the springs in the accessory shoe. Unfortunately mine has chrome strap lugs.

I could see the hydrodip giving an even coat, never have seen it done in person, I wonder how thick it usually goes on?
Be careful if you use media to "blast" off the chrome and nickel, the brass really warms up quick with all that friction. (Experience with a M3)
I'm trying a product called B929, purchased from Caswell Plating, it strips Nickel from Brass.
It comes as a powder you mix with water, heat, then soak your parts.
For the chrome Im using Muriatic Acid which does a really nice job if you don't mind the set and forget approach to a project! It does take a fair amount of time depending on the strength. Ive always left it for a day, rinse thoroughly, if there are stubborn spots I'll usually hit them with a plastic bristle brush, then resoak in a fresh pool of acid.
A quick cleaning up with fine sandpaper and it's ready for paint.
*Always wear the proper safety equipment*
I'm going to try and bake the paint, never done this, so there are definitely some new and exciting things to experiment with!

I believe the hydrodip is very thin. I'd look at doing it to apply graphics
don't want to give too much away.

Erik,
My IIc has a different style shoe spring.
Two button top chrome screws and a spring plate (which needs some tweaking).
Maybe just keep the two screw heads chrome!?
There is a link above the the exact camera if your curious.
I think I'll try and find the later type seen on yours.

Glad to see its the IIc. Purely because I think it would look just a tad more cool in black. I hope this is still going to be black......not orange or some other unnatural insult. What I couldn't determine from the thread above -- retain the chrome bits (knobs) or not? I like the look of retained chrome knobs.
Wait. Orange? "sigh"..... well, let's see it when you're done.
I think we'll all be commemorating a much-loved RFF member for a while. This is a nice one. Even if its .....orange.

This one will surely be Orange,
If only for it being my favorite color.
Next I'll be doing a Black IIIc to satisfy this post, that camera will be for sale when complete. I've almost got the funds and have found 2 suitable candidates.
Blew my walking around money this pay period on chemistry and leatherette! Sold my Rolleiflex for the Skopar and IIc.
But I've listed some stuff in the classifieds, hoping to buy a few cameras just with the purpose of painting for others to enjoy.

Yes, mine has the IIIc type. I don't know it will a IIc.
I agree that a Color-Skopar looks super cool on a IIIc. I bought a mint black one for mine. Hard to get one those days. Not only for fondling, but also for photography a great lens.
Erik.

Are you still looking for an M8? I thought you sold yours?

Devin Bro
Yes still looking for an M8,
Sold mine a year ago,
So if I can find a good deal after selling my Fuji gear, I'll be back!
I could likely buy a IIIc every month at the prices im finding.
Edit: If I do get another M8... I would have to sell the D2! Tough decision I'm happy waiting to make haha

Erik.
This is my second copy, first was black, and I'm really excited to have this lens again.
I sold my old one when prices were so-so and when I approached buying another the prices had gone through the roof.
After a few weeks of casual search I scored my 9/10 Rated Chrome copy from BH at the unholy sum of 219$ shipped.
Surely I thought it was a mistake and took the risk it played out just fine for me and if I had the box It could pass as New.
