I hate to keep bothering y'all with questions, but my Leica has an extremely large tripod mount. Does anyone know of any adapters that I could purchase in order to use the camera on a tripod?

Screw-in adapters were common in the 40s and 50s. Check with a local, old-time camera shop and ask to look through their junk boxes.

Just a difference between American and European tripod screw standards. The Europeans settled on a 3/8" screw.

Your camera probably also came with a lens marked in meters, and does not the word "Germany" engraved on it. (Well, if it was sold to England, it would be feet.) It was just the US that required the marking of country of origin in English. (If Leitz had wanted to mark the country of origin for their own purposes, they would have marked it Deutschland.)

Does your III have a Leica case? Check the tripod mount on the case to see if there is an adapter there. Since the case screws into the tripod mount on the camera (using the larger, European mount) any adapter must be removed to put the case on. A logical place to store the adapter is on the case tripod mount. That's where I found mine.

If you don't find one and do have to go scrounging in camera shops and swap meets, check the cases.

I was wondering if my Leica was a domestic model - no germany and the lens is in meters. The lens hood for my Elmar though is marked Germany however, so must have been purchased in the states sometime later in its life. I do have the original Leica case, but no luck on the tripod mount having the adapter there.
