Leica lens CLA in Paris?

does anyone know of a store here that works on Leica lenses that also has knowledge of the R-D1? i have a new (old) Noctilux i would like checked out....

i'm guessing Photo Suffren would be one (and they are quite close), but they were quite rude to me last time i poked my head in. i was looking to buy an Epson in the first place and they practically bit my head off! between my horrid french and being of the lesser gender, they made it clear that i was unwanted.

likewise, i've not had great luck with the Leica store here. though i may just have been in the middle of a joke between stores as my friend said the Leica fellow was rude and kept on pointing to my lens, yelling Summilux, Summilux. my feeble attempts to correct him remained unheard by everybody. the Leica chap stepped over, poking at the f/1 and sneeringly said Noctilux and huffed away. i'm not sure if the look of distaste on his face was from the fact he didn't think i knew what i had, that i was using an Epson, or the age of my lens (a 1975 58mm). or, if indeed, it was all a show....

Many shops in Paris are more interested in selling you stuff rapidly rather than take the burden of dealing with repairs. That's what happened to me when my Epson R-D1 needles failed and many shops including PhotoSuffren could not deal with it (but they were nice to me not rude btw)

I finally called Epson France, they gave me a service number that I used to return the camera for repair (they have a service center that deals with the r-d1 at Creteil). It was a bit difficult explaining what the R-D1 is for their support staff at first and they had tried to get rid of me by redirecting me to a third party. After insistance, the support guy discussed with his supervisor to understand what is an R-D1 and finally took the right decision 🙂

That's weird that PhotoSuffren was rude to you, they're the reference for Leica users in France. You can try "Procirep - Le comptoir de l'image" in the 13th district, boulevard auguste blanqui, near Place d'Italie. It's a very very good shop near my place, extremely competent and kind.

HaHa! A Noctilux on a R-D1 is like a Ferrari motor in a Fiat Panda. Just kidding of course 😉. Seriously, Photo Suffren are competent and honest in my experience. Perhaps they don't repair the Epsons any more. Sorry i can't advise another shop, Cam. You know the R-D1 has been almost killed by the press in France so that very few dealers took the risk to sell it. Got my R-D1 in Germany and my R-D1s in Italy, go figure.

there used to be a shop on blvd port royal that always had good stuff in their used cabinet- i recall they were called "photo pro." i don't know if they are still open, or their reputation, but they seemed to know their stuff.

thank you all. like i said, my french is truly awful -- which is definitely a problem in some places. i will try out the nice places and be as polite as possible (not that i ever mean to be rude -- just sometimes i'm not sure of what's coming out of my mouth; i revert to english or spanish in moments of extreme terror).

at Photo Suffren, i kind of walked in a little drenched, GRD in hand, and probably didn't look to have money to spend. double standards for ladies and gents, you understand.... and usually a place will try to understand me, whereas PS just shooed me out. it left a bad taste in my mouth. then again, maybe somebody was just having a bad bad day. guess i should give them another go if all else fails. they are in walking distance after all....

i think the Nocti is basically fine, except for perhaps a slight front focus (which makes the mid apertures spot on). it had a glitch in focussing that seems to have smoothed out for the most part. more concerning to me, is the fact that the actually mount seems a bit loose. really really scary when a lens costs that much!
