ok, you know in math class, they used to give us a line of numbers and you had to figure out which number was next or missing?

i was thinking about something similar for lenses.

like this...all 50 mm lenses...

canon 1.2.....canon 1.5.....leica collapsible summicron 2....?

what 50 should joe get next for use with the m3 and 90 collapsible summicron?

extra credits for clarity in your comments.

😉

If you want to stick with Leica/Leica, then yes, of course, the f/2.8 Elmar. Either "old" or "new".

But I saw a number pattern in your lens speed choices there: f/1.2, f/1.5, f/2 ... the next step would be f/2.5 (forget about the ones we've skipped), and then f/2.8

Hence the suggestion.

OK, I will be the boring one. I would get the Cron fixed first. Shoot with the others while you wait. Try the Cron. If you like the collapsability but not the lens, trade it for an Elmar. If you do like it go straight for the ZI.

I like Kim's idea. But if you get the Summi fixed and you like it, then there really is no need to get the ZM, though a 28/35/50 ZM kit will make you my hero.

Some day I am going to fall into an older version 2.8 Elmar.

Oh, and since you are collecting 50s now, drop the $30 on a J8.

Canon glass on Leica

Canon glass on Leica

Hello:

There are people who like canon glass on leica. If you want Leitz, a good example of a collapsible* or current summicron cannot be bettered imho.

common sense (an uncommon commodity) says that i should get the summicron fixed now and at least experience it some.

i want the zm 50 to have a 25/35/50 combo of new glass.
i can always also use the leica 90 or canon 100 if i wanted something longer on the zi.

in truth i see myself eventually gearing down to one of these cameras/lens sets.
i cannot believe the internal chaos having this much different gear is having on me. with the 3 p's there was no chaos, all the choices were the same.
i'm not complaining, honest. i'm also a one woman man, if that makes any sense...

the camparison of a relationship with a woman to a relationship with a camera.

There is no comparison: a camera would never hurt you just for fun. 🙂

I got that part Joe...but...ok, nevermind.

So:
"ok, you know in math class, they used to give us a line of numbers and you had to figure out which number was next or missing?"

So did you go for the "missing" number, or for the "next" number (1.4 / 1.8 , or 2.5)?

update...

i have sent out several pleas for help to various repair houses, including to our own gerry smith in canada.

i will look at the costs and most likely get the summicron cleaned and reassembled.
and then make any further decisions from there.

i also plan to lock all my gear away except for the zi and the 25/35 lenses, once the 25 arrives. my priority for the next while is to learn how to use my new gear so that it becomes second nature to me.
