I didn't think this this would be difficult to purchase, but the first one I got from Amazon didn't work so I did some google searching and came up of course with the $90 Leica cable release. That's a little steep for me and there has to be another version more reasonably priced that does the job. I did a search in the forums and nothing popped up easily identifiable in the headers so I figured I would just ask.

What cable release are people using for the M240? I don't need the cheapest one. Just something that holds up in the bag it's been tossed in and not used for awhile and works when you need it to.

Thanks

Hmm. What was the one that didn't fit? Did it have a conical-taper thread?

I have three cable releases, all with a conical-taper thread, that are up to sixty years old (two were bought for my grandfather's M3 in the 1950's). They all fit the M-P typ 240 perfectly. I bought the newish one at the local camera shop in 2006 to use with my Pentax 645 .. Fits the Hassies too. Just a no-name cable release that cost me $12.

I use the self timer with the cable release.. It's just easier to get to when working on a tripod.

I understand the cable release threads of the M240 are a little different than with earlier Leica cameras, necessitating M240-specific soft releases. Shallower perhaps?

I wonder if this change is what is affecting cable release compatibility in this case.
