Leica M: 3 or 4?

Well, I have always said the M2 is my favorite classic film Leica. The viewfinder cannot be beat IMHO and the M4 is my second favorite M as I can live with the small 135 frame lines in the 35 FOV. I have never changed from that opinion.

If you look at my history of M ownership at the start of the thread, I have only owned an M3 once for a couple years back in the middle 1970's. I was wondering if there was something I missed or did not remember of an M3's magic compared to M2 or M4. It appears to me there is not so I will be sticking with an M2. I don't shoot enough film anymore to justify to M film bodies

Exactly. Build quality can only affect how long the camera will last and so, if you get a good one (not badly worn), and look after it then it will probably outlast you. Whether or not film will still be made then is another question that might be more important than build quality worries.

That made me sad...
