Leica M-D: Pure for the sake of . . . purity?

Very nice, Vince. I admit to believing M-D owners would eventually miss their screens and go back to LCD bodies. I sure was wrong.

Many thanks - like you say John, I was wondering if I'd made a mistake by purchasing the M-D instead of the SL. But working with it and seeing the results confirms that I made the right choice.

Can't help but notice there are no ass marks on that Brooks!:D

Ha! Yeah maybe! It's certainly had a lot of leather treatment applied to it.

I think when I bought it earlier this year it was old store stock, so it probably hadn't even been used before I got it. I think I've ridden this bike about 10 times since I finished it. I have 4 other bikes so I have to spread the 'love' around :)

Many thanks Helen - I tell you, I am just so taken with this camera (even a year later) that I almost don't feel the need for my Monochrom. Almost :)

I should have upped the ISO setting for indoors, but I was too blown away gaga over this gorgeous Mercedes-Benz W196 GP car this morning to think clearly about what I was doing with the camera ...

A few selected photos of my recent trip to Cuba with a small U of Wash Alumni Assn group. This gets us to about the halfway point as we traveled into central Cuba for a couple of days. M-D and 28 Summicron (with UV/IR Cut filter!) for all...

That's right! If I had a concern with M-D color it would be a tendency toward orange in skin tones. Not sure just what to do about that...

Some years ago I headed off to a similar group trip to an off-the-beaten-path island (Malta) with a new digital RF (an M8 then), reminiscent of this trip. That time I was not yet a believer in the utility of the UV/IR Cut filter, didn't even have one. But that experience demonstrated the necessity!

So now I may be a bit superstitious about IR contamination in later Leica dRF cameras which, while better at blocking IR than the M8, still allow more through than a Cut filter does. So I like to use a UV/IR Cut filter too... And I suspect this may clean up the colors a little on my photos. Sound reasonable?

Doug I just picked up a UV/IR cut filter for my Nikkor-S lens. I think I'm going to do a with/without test to see the colour differences.

A really quick test with and without the UV/IR cut filter.

Both shots were equally adjusted in PhotoShop RAW. Interesting that the AWB reading in the 'with' photo was 5800K with a -11 tint, whereas the 'without' shot had and AWB of 5600K with a -12 tint. So evidently the camera chose to give the shot with the filter a warmer white balance. What I did was to bias on the side of the 'without' photo and I made both 5600K with a -12 tint.

Not sure if it's just my eye, but I think the skin tone in the 'with' filter photo seems a bit less red. They were both shot within about two minutes of each other in late day open shade.

Thoughts?

I have some pics of the same car (I assume, based on the number on it) from when it was in the Petersen museum. I agree it's a beauty. Nice shots of it.
