Leica M-D: Pure for the sake of . . . purity?

From a neighborhood walk a few days past ...

I've been eyeing the M-D ever since it came out. I could technically afford it after selling my M Typ 240 but I don't know if I can justify it yet since my M has exactly the same sensor (essentially).

I covered up my M's display about two months ago and have NOT missed it at all. In fact, I'd say my ability to previsualise my photographs has improved slightly because of it, and not only that, my mistakes have been more impactful and a better lesson learned after getting home and finding an exposure or whatever was off. I've been employing the film-zen method of taking pictures for a little while now and it makes me enjoy photography even more. I'll definitely be considering it in the near future as a replacement to my now "blind" M 240.

By "film zen" I mean, look first, expose, focus and compose, consider the frame and only then click the shutter (once!). No spray and pray. Nowadays I'm "Making" every frame, not hoping to get it right. I have to make it right.

Good test, Nick... I am content with using my M240 in essentially this way. So I can continue with this indefinitely without the influence of the M-D. That's a very attractive camera, and I just wish I'd had the opportunity to get one before the M240!

First time back to my walk carrying a camera in a month or more.
My legs are healing, I can walk again.

I went to the movies this morning and the sky turned gray and soft by the time it was over. I had the M-D with me so I decided to take advantage...

Fine photo samples here to raise an urge to consider an M-D! And I caved on Wednesday, so an M-D is on its way to me now. It will be waiting for me when I get back to town.

Some of this urge comes from the absence of all three of my digital M cameras for service in New Jersey... Why I thought it a good idea to send them all off at the same time escapes me now! They say absence makes the heart grow fonder, and after nearly 6 months I'm missing them.

So I'll happily use the new M-D and see for myself what the enthusiasm is about. And when the others finally return from service I'll decide if the 240 and one M8 won't be kept. I'm sure to keep the third, a chrome M8u.

Will the 14496 Handgrip M for the typ240 fit ok on the typ262?

Doug

Congrats Doug - you're sure to love the camera, hope you make a lot of great photos with it.

I don't know about the grip, but I'd suggest trying it out for a while wiithout it. You may find that you don't need it.
