With shooting digital high shutter speeds are your friend, unless you are using a tripod. I would not want 1/1000th as my maximum because I like sharp images and because digital is higher resolution than film the added high shutter speeds are a big asset.

I'm an old analog film guy who went to art school in the 70's; I only went digital when Leica created the perfect camera for a guy like me (Monochrom); but shooting the Monochrom has made me a better photographer in a profound way because digital is so unforgiving. Exposure and good technic are well rewarded.

agreed for digital, but sometimes it's nice to have that quiet whisper of a shutter that i have in my m4....an electronic shutter and leaf shutter doesn't quite give me that tactile sensation: quiet, but noticeable only when you are listening for it.
 
yeah, put back the lever to cock the shutter, limit the card capacity to 36 Black and white RAW only pictures, and require a special lab service to retrieve the images from the card.

I've worked with CrCo in dental applications for 36 years. CNC milling it would be very costly because the material is extremely hard (above 350 Vickers). It also retains heat. Plus there is the issue of Cobalt exposure to workers in the fabrication process, especially where milling vs casting is used. It's great for removable partial dentures, and I use it extensively for veterinary crowns. Not sure I'd advocate using it for cameras though.

If it's true that it lacks an LCD, is a one-trick pony, etc. then I doubt many will buy it, honestly. Better to be a "special edition." Then again, the Monochrom surprised a lot of people (especially Leica).

I know, I thought they would be more confident after the success of the Monochrom.
 
Best thing about digital is histogram and preview.

There is always black tape .

Personally I want to see the recorded image and KNOW everything is well as much as possible.
 
The M 240 Ever Ready case has a flap that covers the screen so if you're disciplined you can shoot in a screen-less fashion. Just don't open the flap!

Personally I can see an advantage in having the screen on occasions but I like the idea of learning to shoot without histograms or reviews. The latter actually impede the learning process. It's good to be forced to think how to get it right rather than "shoot and correct".

don’t like the wonky front-viewfinder-window-awkward-intersection or the fat-ass-M240-ness of it, but i do like the overall aesthetic/colors/simplicity/lack of I’M RICH AND HAVE A LLLEEEIIIICAAAA pimple screaming on the front.

i hope very much that they use this as a "tip of the spear" and offer a non-special-edition version in short time, without the lens or exotic materials. leica digital does have a knack for being excellent at business strategy (and i mean that in the absolute worst possible way imaginable)
 
Aaaand ... it comes with a pair of white gloves complete with the Leica logo!

Exactly. Whenever Leica brings anything out, there are always hysterical reactions from those who say "I don't want this camera, so it shouldn't be allowed! Especially at that price!"
