Aesthetically: flush, practically - raised (I found it quite annoying but apparently unavoidable grabbing the camera so that viewfinder and RF windows are spoiled by fingerprints right away, now matter how often one clean them up)...
I think raised design would help in that respect identifying the sensitive areas by touch.

My preference is with flush. No place for dust and smudge to cling to. Easy to wipe fingerprints off..

Have an M4 though, so I just learn to live with grub at the edges of everything everywhere..

I'll go with flush as well, despite the associations that word has. I do like the smooth look my M7 has- I'll even go a touch further and say that the extra height has some visual appeal to these eyes, but then I have eyes for the M5, and we all know what that means😉

Recessed for sure.
I've never like the M3--the raised lip just seems a detraction from the flowing lines of the camera.
I'm not too sure on flush, either, as there really is no distinction between body and windows.

Is flush really flush? Not just a little recessed? I like the recessed M2 and M4-2. The M3's raised edges are too baroque for my taste.

Less is more...

I love the "baroque" comment. 😉
Less is, indeed, more.

i think recessed windows are the most elegant. raised clashes with the simple, bauhaus influenced design, while flush have a black outline that looks clumsy and out of place.

now, fangs (m3, m2) or no fangs (m4, etc.)?

It's not even close. Flush looks unfinished; it just stops. Recessed is OK but it's like " I couldn't afford the the Caddy so I bought a Buick Limited". Those eyebrows are what makes the M3 AFAIC, purely ornamental but so retro wonderful....still deadly cool looking after 50+ years. If I do get an MP it'll have 'em, otherwise I'll feel like I just bought a newer M6.....

Pardon? What do cameras have to do with Cadillacs?

M2's were priced lower (about 25%) than leica's flagship model back in the 50's......

Anything but flush brass. Had I known, I would not have purchased the two M6`s new when they first appeared.

I must admit, they have not given me a problem so far. But the cameras have seen very light use.

Flush all the way!

Aesthetically I like the cleaner look. And as for the practical issue, I don't seem to have the same problems that some people have with smearing. The very faint prints are certainly not an issue for me in the real world. And if I get anything more on the VF, it is certainly MUCH easier to clean without having to worry about buildup in the crevices. Just a quick wipe and it's clean as a whistle!

I've heard raised keeps finger prints off of it a lot easier. I constantly wipe my m6 window and people at school think I'm obsessed with my camera. I sort of am, but yeah.
