Leica M5 "prototype"

Found on the auction site today, dunno if someone has seen it:

Looks more like something made in art class... for mentally challenged people. But it might be genuine, what do I know. But 5500$? These people never cease to amaze me.

This one's been on sale for at least a year (there are other threads that refer to it). Obviously PA ain't in any hurry to sell it.

I wonder how much they paid for it (or whether they did--it might be on consignment). The fact that it's remained in inventory for so long means that they didn't acquire it for a very dear price which they need to recoup ASAP.

I'd pay $25 on a crazy day for it.

for $25 you could buy one 3rd a cord of wood and a pocket knife and carve 30 of your own, or close to it.(it says "wood model" on the tag) 😉

Back in the days (pre-Kaufman) Leica was going broke at a rapid rate and to raise money- they simply sold off a chunk of the Leica Musuem inventory! Most was duplicates. but also some unique prototypes and these "design" studies. From what I heard. it was a private buyer and he has since enlisted Arsenal to dispose of some of the stuff. Hence the large amount of rare and one-offs on the market today.
I particularly like the 1/4"" bushing on the front. If you screw in a door peephole you could get a Fisheye M5!
