if you are still in Ulan Bator and after you get a Police Report, I would go to any of the major Western Embassy offices and ask to speak to the Commercial Attache... There are several big Western Insurance agencies in Ulan Bator and maybe you can get guidance from someone who might have dealt with this issue in the past...It can't hurt...

Regarding the insurance, make sure you get that police report. I would also spend money to get the report translated into English once you get home.
Check with your home owners insurance as often there is coverage for personal property anywhere in the world and it is possible you may have coverage at an RCV level (real cash value). Typically travel insurance will be ACV (actual cash value) and therefore the adjuster will compute a level of depreciation depending on the laws where the enforcing policy is held. In most cases, the depreciation will be calculated based on a number of factors; age, physical pre-loss condition, ware and tear, etc.
Keep in mind that once an offer has been made by an insurance company that it is not final as long as you do not sign a release. If an offer is made and you feel it is considerably less than what you would expect to be a fair offer (depending on the terms of the insurance ACV or RCV), then what you should do is prepare a counter offer in writing citing that you have received their offer and have reviewed it, but for reasons x, y, z the offer in place is not adequate, and provide supporting documentation as to what you believe is the appropriate amount. 9 times out of 10 this will get you more money.

Home insurance generally covers items stolen, even if out of your car. I made the mistake of leaving my M7 and lens in my car in my driveway. Very nice neighborhood, suburb, lights, who would have thought. Hopefully you have full replacement value on your goods. My insurance company offered me a ridiculous depreciated value until checked my policy and pointed out the "full replacement value". They would not give me the cash value but bought and delivered all brand new stuff. Got my 1970 Summilux replaced with the new ASPH version.

hi guys
thanks for all the kind messages, and the insights into the insurance industry,
it was stolen in the bright day next to the parliament building with securities nearby...
i never left a bag in the car, just this one time because my local friend told me that it would be ok. he will replace the cameras though. now i need to shop for a new m6
i still want to get insurance, but it will be hard.
i got the police report already and contacted my creditcard companies, they will be working on the case.
now i can just hope to get my stuff back, because there were some important data for me in a book that got stolen as well. my passport was in there too, but that i can re-make, although its not that easy for an EU citizen in ulan bator
fortunately i took my rolleiflex 2.8F out earlier that day, and my laptop bag with all my pictures was in that car as well, that they did not take.

Sorry about your loss... But I'm glad to see that, as it seems to me, you're doing fine. I am glad I was not the one who said that leaving a camera bag in a car was safe...
As for credit card companies... are you trying to block the use of yours? Or do you want to get payment from credit card companies? I did something along those lines once, to get an item replaced (it was out of warranty) and after proving ownership with a receipt and getting an estimate of the repair cost, I got a check in the mail for the exact amount.
Then, again, I had to do the footwork and make a lot of phone calls.
