For the first time in 30 years I have had to send a Leica to "Leica New York" for a repair. I was wondering if any of you have any thoughts about this repair. I send in a Leica M6Ttl with about 30+ rolls of film through it for a very lose top cover plate and shutter speeds that were off. It came back a different camera ( and $200.00 less in the checking account!). Question.....on this camera I used the new Leica winder all the time. Do you think that the winder could have losened the camera and effected the sutter speeds?

Using the winder shouldn't be a problem. The M6TTL does have the connection and can be used with a winder, so, at least on principle, it shouldn't have a problem with it.

Now... did you buy the camera used? One of my M6TTL had "issues" with light, and it had to be sent to Leica for correction.

One last question: where in NY did you send your camera when their offices are in NJ? Just wondering... 🙂

AFAIK there never was a Leica New York. It was E. Leitz NY and still Leitz when they moved to Rockleigh, New Jersey which was IIRC more than 30 years ago. Leitz became Leica USA in the late 1980s. They were located for a long time in Northvale, and this year moved to Allendale, both in New Jersey.

I've seen it said the winders shouldn't be used at slow shutter speeds (makes sense), and certainly if they're miscalibrated so they kick back like mules (I've handled some that did) it's possible it could cause all sorts of stress and vibration-related problems. If the winder is smooth running it's hard to see how it could be the culprit.

Sent the camera to Leica New Jersey....I asked them the same question herein, and they gave me no response. No, I did not buy the camera "used" but "new" a couple of years ago.
All that I can say is that the top plate became very loose and the sutter speed were off badly....first problem that I ever have had with a Leica body...I have M3, 111F, M6, M6TTL, R6, R7, etc. etc.
