Ascender: Kiss from a Rose is a badass song. It would be even more bad ass if the CD was posed next to a silver M8... can you spare us the picture?

Hey everyone!
This is all getting just a little bit crazy, we're never gonna survive, unless....!
I have no order for an M8 - it'll take me about a year to save for one...and then I'll probably take my family on hoiday instead..... but hey, my M3 is still working so why worry.
I'm looking forward to some M8 images though, who takes them I care not!
Enjoy your new camera Charlie, I'm pleased to hear that it is everything you hoped for.

Some people are rubbing me the wrong way and I am starting to get in one of those moods. Keep it cool folks.

Jorge, think it is important to keep everyone honest and add a bit of humor when possible. We can all learn by going on the web that Seal is interested in photography. It's also important to point out that it is clear that the original poster is not Seal.
Best, Steven

Sorry for the biblical tone but, dang!, you guys are hard for a newcomer, and ungrateful to boot. Let the man enjoy his new gear and give him some time to get some worthy shots.

Hi everyone.
So I just got back in from taking my family to the pumpkin patch just off of Doheny in LA. Before I left I was wondering whether to take the more convenient D-lux 3 which is a very nice point n shoot and from what I can tell, better than the Panasonic version which I had and sent back, or of course…..the new star performer. Wisely I opted for the latter and although the light was less than perfect, I ended up taking about 200 shots most of them at ISO 160 and about half of them in B/W. Why B/W? Well, that’s just it! After holding the M8 and working with it for a few hours one cannot help but feel a sense of nostalgia and that is what led me to shoot that way…as though I had my M6/7 loaded with my beloved Iford HP4. I haven’t had time to look at the images yet as I’ve just literally walked in the door but I can tell you that the experience of shooting the range finder was as though I was shooting film….BRILLIANT! Unfortunately the day was marred by a hoard of cockroaches (or paparazzi as you know them) who did their best to destroy our family day but hey, it’s small price to pay for an otherwise great life.
One thing I cannot believe with this camera is just how damned accurate the colours are. The auto white balance works exceptionally well to the point whereby each time I look into the LCD on the back (probably the one bad habit from shooting digital that the M8 experience will not get rid of), I find myself marveling at the sheer accuracy of the machine. I look at the subject then back at the LCD and I’m hard pushed to find any discrepancies.
I shot the whole day in JPG mode. I did this because I’m sort of trying to give ‘Aperture’ another go and I’m positive it will not read ‘Adobe’s DNG. I love ‘Lightroom’ but as we all know it is a beta and still lacks some key features however, I’m hoping that it will read the M8’s choice of RAW. I will let you know soon enough if this is the case.
Again, I’m sorry that I cannot post any images taken for all the aforementioned reasons but I will again tell you that this camera is AMAZING! It really makes you remember why you fell in love with photography. I really hope that Leica have success with this, I really do because I know that their future, as we know it, is really riding on the M8. They have so much pride in what they do. They are quintessentially German (I’m married to one…hahaha) and that is a great thing when it comes to engineering.
Okay, I’m going to attempt to download today’s images and take a closer look. I’m not in the least bit concerned with noise as I did some preliminary tests yesterday and it passed with flying colours. There only started to be what might be considered by some as a problem at ISO 1250 but the beauty of it is that with the rangefinder concept, the M lenses and a reasonably steady hand you will seldom be above ISO 640. I’m going to be looking at the colour balance more than anything else to see if it corresponds to the LCD which is still blowing my mind. Also, I really want to see how the lenses have made their transition to digital more than anything. I will let you know.
Btw, my serial # is 3100695.

Hey Charlie,
M8 aside, what didn't you like about the Panasonic version of the Dlux-3 (damn you got one of those too), the lens is the same but I hear that leica has massaged the processing somehow to be different from the Panasonic. What's your take on it?

My take is that I took a close look at the sample pictures provided and did not like them. Too digital. And although Ascenders post appears to be quite jovial, it somehow seems a bit err... off-key?

One of the last off that first production line of thousands I guess. Probably to make sure they'd worked out the production glitches before sending you one

I for one, believe you, and do look forward to your posts when you are able to provide them. Thanks for the information! I think what you you are interpreting as negativism is just mild resentment on the part of many folks here who do not have the apparent influence with Leica that you do. We all are eager to receive our own cameras. Please don't be put off! Welcome!

is there a link to a website that has samples of either the Panasonic or the Dlux 3?

50 Summilux is da DEVIL!
If you were shooting at 160 then it was not all that dark in the patch, ehhh? Nice that you have one but I have to say hearing about it is like the girl who does really good foreplay then says she's not in the mood. Really frustrating man.
So how usable is the software that leica bundles in with the camera? I assume that you are shooting raw. Is the vignetting a problem with the wides (35 and wider) or did you not shoot with anything that wide?
Good God man, give us something to go on.

I was only shooting .jpeg images this afternoon...
I love the 3 formats... 3:2, 4:3, 16:9... 4:3 & 16:9 the best (IMO)...
I was gathering info for a fellow in California that wants a D-LUX 3...
He currently can only view .jpeg images... Once he becomes familiar with .RAW,
he will be able to explore the full potential of the camera... I don't think he'll be
disapointed... Jim
