Hi All. I've been searching around for a half case for my Leica M with Leica grip. I see plenty of half cases out there that have a built in grip but are there ones that will accommodate the Leica hand grip as well? TIA!

Check out the Zhou half case on the bay, affordable and well made. Bought my first one for my R-d1, got one for an m8, perfect fit with a thumbs up!

I've never had any problems getting replies from Luigi. Apparently he has an assistant now for email orders, so the problems some folks have had should be gone.

Anyway, he makes a case that accommodates the Leica grip.

I had initially been attracted to those cases with grip, and had also thought it made sense.....until i finally bought one. Holding the M9 became quite unnatural. :(

I guess Leica engineers already thought it through and decided that there was no need for a grip.

In the end I got myself an A&A case for protection. The leather is soft and comfortable to hold, yet it oozes quality.

I'm using the slimmest variant of Luigi's cases (standard, no built-in grip) since four your years now and both examples I own do very well. The case changes a bit the feel when holding the camera. Generally, I think it provides a slightly better grip than without case. Any case makes the camera a wee bit thicker as well, don't know if you are going to like that with the digital Ms, as they are the Fat Boys already.

The protection aspect at least in my case seems negligible - traces always appear on the top deck  But seriously, I really think the most exposed area really is the top cover. Around you've got leatherette, bottom one you either don't care, it has anyway this funny plastic film on it or you just change it when its condition bothers you.

After reading this I went on his website to check again and he does advertise it for the non-digital bodies. I'm sure he can make one for the digital M's.

Luigi's site has many photo's of digital 8/9 cases, with and without a rear flap.

I can recommend highly, and the small grip on the standard case works really well.

His assistant is his daughter, and if you follow the process suggested you will have no problems. Mine arrive (UK) within four days of initial contact.

If you are in UK, have you looked at Classic Cases? Same design and price as Luigi's but have yet to see a report.

Good luck

I'm in the US but I did take a look at the classic cases. They do look similar but it doesn't look cheaper. Price isn't much of an issue as long as I think it brings enough value.

I went "Luigi" - a few problems with no response to order e-mail but case delivered within about 2 weeks. He does a case for the grip but I went for built in grip, which has proved to be fine. I use the half case when using the camera and a Leica neoprene case over the top for when its in my bag or on the back seat of the car....

...and I forgot to say....no rear flap - attached I thought it would be a pain and poppered version I thought I would rarely want on.
