Made it to NJ on Friday, so I should have it by Wednesday. Turn around time not bad, around a month. Seemed more like 6months. I enjoyed my MP3 custom job in the interim but I predict it will be a museum piece soon enough. Same for my M5 which I actually enjoy using just as much. Hope the M8 has no issues. Got confirmation from Leica that my 30% discounted 28 asph emarit will arrive end of this month! Now if Luigi's case would come in, I'd be all set.

Hmmm, if I were you I'd give that M8 a week or so before I'd donate that MP3 and M5 to the Smithsonian;)

Ben,
the M8 is going to be just fine!

Jamriman,
now that the MP3 is useless, I will take it off your hands. Likely just to collect dust and loosing value every day.:D

Seriously, good luck. Hope the M8 is all you want it to be now.

The same letter that offered you the 30% lens discount, said your returned M8 would have, quote ( 10 days in our workshop plus shipment time). Leica has had my M8 since
Jan. 7th. No communications at all with me, without my request for update. I have sent many E Mails to NJ and Solms, with NO reply. I have now added Leica, to my long list of companies I call specialist of, NO SERVICE. PS. Make sure Luigi’s leather case comes in one of his really cool Leicatime box’s he makes. He sent mine in a plastic bag. I asked him about it and he told me to buy something else and he would send the box. It never ceases to amaze me how many companies take there customers for granted now days. Monday is my vent day.

If it is black and ever for sale, drop me a line.

My M8 was shipped out to NJ around the second week of January too. It's been a while, so I emailed the repair contact at Allendale (follow the support links) and he gave me a tracking #. For some reason, Leica chose not to give out the tracking # when they sent the letter saying it would be sent to Germany.

In fact, the letter stated my repair would take 4-5 weeks.

Disappointing, to say the least. Anyway, I checked with the web site and it states that just yesterday it was approved for return. So far, no word on whether it is back yet, or when it goes out.

The Leica repair contact was helpful by providing that tracking #. However, I get the feeling that Leica Germany doesn't really understand what they are doing when they take 4-5 weeks to repair something like this.

Anyway, I can't wait to get the M8 back, so that I can finally use it in low light. If the problems were minimal I wouldn't have returned it, but not having low light without streaking would make the camera unusable for much of what I shoot.

It is being returned, but Leica doesn't list a shipping / tracking # or any estimated return date. I assume it'll be back within a week or so.

Repair Status

When the Repair Tracking lists "Service order registered on" and a date, does that mean they have completed the repairs?

Or, does it mean that they have just recieved it and have begun repairs?

I too had my M8 sent out on Jan 19, 2007 batch.

Any info would be appreciated.

raydilla,

No, the service order registered on date means that they have placed the order into the system. I think the label is "In Repair" when it is being repaired.

When it is finished, a state like "repair complete" and "shipping in progress" or something like that appears. (Sorry, can't get to my PC downstairs for the actual text).

Check with the Leica repair customer service line or email--they have been responsive to me within a day or so of email when I've asked.
