Leica Monochrom M246

Vince,

I'm really looking forward to hearing your thoughts on it, and lots of brilliant photos you'll create with it.

As a mater of interest Vanbar here in Oz have just listed the 240 on their site ... taking orders at eleven and a half grand!

I'll be passing I think ... I can get by with the one kidney I have left after buying my 240 ... I've heard it's very hard to survive with none! :D

Keith, Vanbar is just trying it on. They are asking $1,000 more than the RRP in Australia. All other dealers are in the 10.5k range (which is nonetheless a very significant amount, but ballpark against the various international figures when factoring GST, etc). I have an order with Digidirect (Leica Boutique) in Sydney, and expecting to receive the camera in a few days. Regards, Ross :)

P.S. Oh, and I am also just about out of kidneys (and a few other organs) ;-)

It's actually cheaper than the first Monochrom!

I could be wrong, but aside from the beta testers' 246's, I might have one of the first ones on the East Coast (or, at least in the region my 'pusher' covers).

Now the rest is up to me -- I have to make photos that are worthy of its ownership. Not just cat photos :)

We have already seen that you can make images worthy of ownership of this fine instrument.
Can't wait to see some uploads.
I have sold off some gear in the last few days and will order one as soon as they are in stock. I will however never be worthy of owning one based on my images but that's not going to take the pleasure away.

Thanks Jan -- encouragement is always welcomed and appreciated!

One thing I did notice right off the bat with the body -- it's a 'plump' one!

I need some advice. I am currently a 100% film shooter in all formats up to 8x10. For street I shoot Leica and TLR. I have decided to replace 135 film with digital or at least supplement it with digital because I am attracted to high ISO capabilities. The Monochrom is the only digital camera that has any interest to me. Now that the CCD version is being replaced I need to make a decision whether to jump now or wait for the new model to fall a bit in price. I have shot with Canon digital a decade ago and hated the plastic skin so decided to stick with film. Exactly how common is the CCD corrosion problem? I can get a mint CCD Monochrom for $3k less than the new camera. Since I have had very little interest in digital until this decision I have not been following the CCD issue so please forgive me for asking this question.

over 30K and 2 1/2 years no problems for me. If you do have a problem Leica will take care of it.

Not to make a big deal of it, but after using the M9 for three years and then upgrading to the M-P typ 240 due to the sensor problem (mine had it), there's no way I'd ever be interested to spend the money and buy into the M9 generation cameras again .. And not because of the sensor issue. The typ 240 and now 246 are, to me, simply that much better as cameras—the M-P finally feels as responsive and invisible as my M4-2. The MM246 will be the same in that respect.

My advice is to wait until you can afford to get the MM246. It will make you happier.
