Leica Monochrom, Sigma DP2 Merrill, and Hasselblad 39CF comparison...

Still waiting for DP2m's to devalue some more :)

Undoubtedly as far as digital goes, my brain still prefers Foveon.

Well, we can do a comparison of our own at the next meet-up. I have the DP2m and you have the Monochrom. :)
 
As I'm done in terms of cameras, I don't care too much.
Obviously the value for money (body and lens combination) in regards to IQ is incredible, when the DP2 is used under suitable conditions but looking at an in detail review here :

The "cons" list is so long that many potential buyers are immediately put off. Another "no go" in my opinion, is a proprietary raw format.
 
Obviously, the Hassy has a flaw of having a mirror and weight, and the Monochrom has a serious issue rendering color :D

Using a butter knife to cut a beer can is not the knife's fault when compared to the serrated knife. I'm sure it's possible, though, if proper patience is applied ;)

I still have many accesories from my long gone dp1....even stored some batteries but guess they won´t do on his new body....

Despite the DP2m's many flaws you all have to remember one thing... it fits in a jacket pocket and is $1000. I am very satisfied with mine, but I would never use it as my only camera. The fact is that this camera shows crazy detail and resolution... even wide open. I know it's easy to write this camera off, but for certain folks, they'd be better off not doing so.

I don't think it's going to happen. He didn't seem interested. Honestly, nor am I... since I already know both the Sigma and the MM are great cameras. :)

Oh well. I would have loved to have seen the same shot one w/ monochrom and the other w/ dp2m both at base iso.. The dp2m color raw converted to tiff and then to b&w......a scene w/ a lot of tonal range. I don't care who got the best resolving power..... I am curious who got the best tonal range..

I suspect the monochrom maybe the best...

Anyway just curious, I don't intend on buying a monochrom.

On the one hand, what a dumb test. Pick any three cameras and compare them.

On the other hand, as a DP2M owner, I am not at all surprised that the DP2M shot has dug out all the texture and detail from the painting which neither the Hasselblad or the Leica M have been able to do.

I have no idea why but the DP2M absolutely thrives on texture.

On a purely economic basis it is hard to fault the value of the DP2M as long as you are prepared to put up with the ergonomics and aesthetics of using it.
