I was wonduring, some of leica's covers (leather) has a gravel look, very black rough look. Is this cover by order? I most seen this type of covers on MPs Leicas. Any Idea would be helpful, I am planning to get an MP but with this kind of cover. I would use some of the photos I've seen in this fourm, but It would not be a propriat thing to do that.
would you -Nice people- support me with any helpful ideas how to have an Mp with this kind of rough cover? Thank you in advance.

You're probably referring to what's called (imitation) "sharkskin". I have it on my MP, but I don't really care for it. I believe most people think it was a mistake on Leica's part, as it is really pretty slippery.

If I wouldn't have an aftermarket grip on my MP, I would be changing the skin, which I will one day anyhow.

I'm thinking about changing the skin on my MP to a vulcanite type. If Leica still does it how much does it cost and how long am I without my MP? Or does someone stateside do it and who would you recommend? Or it easy enough to do yourself? I like the cover on Erik van Straten's MP he shows often.

Yes!! Thats it, vulcanite!
Thank you kshapero, looks attractive! The lens too ; )
And also, like wjlapier asked, is it passible? Or, is there is any after market experts who could do it?

Leica will replace your covering with their Vulkanit for $150 USD. You can view it on their a-la-carte configuration website. As for timing, you'll need to ask them. Additionally, a service technician of your choosing can order the covering from Leica and put it on. I believe they will still charge you the $150 whether they install it or not.

And by the way. It's a great covering. Looks nice and handles well.

Thanx Andy. I like the feel of my M3's vulcanite more than the skin on my MP. I'll check around.

Andy, $150? That's all? THKS - Paul

Do it yourself with a Cameraleather "skin". For $150 you could probably get something that's listed as an endangered species. The cheapy plain black "skin" I put on one of my bodies a couple of years ago still looks like new.

OP: Are you into the look or the feel? If you want a seriously non-slip cover take a look at Griptac covers, sold by cameraleather.com. They're a bit industrial looking, but they work really well.
