Leica T "accidentally revealed"...

I am not in either camp, but I will not buy this camera. There is no way that this camera can be 6 times ($3000 vs. $500) better than my X-E1.

Neither am I but I thought that we`d understood by now that value for money has never been the benchmark.
That is why BW magazine in their review of the M240 today "would find it hard to recommend it as a photographic tool".

*LOL*
$3,000 USD - Body Only.

Does it talk for that price? How about cook breakfast?
Can I hop on it and take it for a spin around the block?

And this is supposed to be competition for Fuji, Olympus and Sony?

*LOL*

Cheers,
Dave

You don't recall the limited edition white M8 then? :D
Was that the white ostrich skin M8, the white rhino skin M8 or the white elephant skin M8 (with added gold plating and a large recurring bill for hay bales)? I tend to forget these things...

Oh dear. It's the same size as a fuji xe2. And it doesn't have a built in viewfinder. Or controls on the rear. And the kit lens is a stop slower on the wide and tele end than the fuji zoom, and it's not even particularly smaller.

Back in the day, we were once admonished by upper upper management .... "We are not in the business of making turbines. We're in the business of making money".

Seems to me that Leica has this same mindset.

So much for that "competition"... *LOL*

I can't stop laughing...

Cheers,

It has a touch screen. How modern! How wonderful!! And the touch screen is on the rear. What more could you want?

So it's the same size as an X-e1, three times the cost and way behind on features.

I can handle minimalism in a camera .... but at a fair price!

Why is everyone so quick to condemn and ridicule a camera that has not yet been presented by Leica? Sure, I am not at all attracted by what I see so far; but wouldn't it make sense to see what image quality it produces before damning it?

EDIT NOTE: After writing the above, I saw the following e-mail from Sean Reid. Although I'm not currently a subscriber to his service, those who are may want to read the reports of his tests before ridiculing, or praising, the camera:
his morning I published three articles, each of them detailed and extensive, that are based on about two months of testing the new Leica T camera and lenses in the field and studio. They are:

1. A report on the Leica T running beta firmware. Many aspects are covered including side by side studio tests of file quality (at various ISO levels) from the T and the Pentax K3.

2. A report on the T Summicron 23/2.0 ASPH, running beta firmware, based on field testing and on my usual full set of studio tests.

3. A report that looks at the performance of two compact 21 mm rangefinder lenses on the Leica T as compared to the (reference standard) Ricoh GXR Mount-A12. This includes field examples as well as the expected side by side studio tests of resolution, luminance vignetting and color drift.

Samples are up on dpreview.

I'm just going to say the kit lens is $1750us, and it looks to *me* to have inferior optical quality to both the $900 olympus 12-40 and the $700 fuji 18-55mm.

Once again, Leica passes up the opportunity to release a camera that gives people a 21st century version of the M camera. Must be deliberate.

It's genuinely different, I like the fact that it's milled from a single piece of aluminium. I can't imagine swapping my X100 for one but I applaud the fact we have more choice.

Yes, it's expensive, but look how many expensive things we have to buy - electricity, insurance - and don't have any choice about it. I hope it does well for them.

It is genuinely different. I can't believe some are comparing it to a Fuji. Its a Leica. It was never intended to be like a fuji.

I'm in favour of it. If the fashionistas stop buying Leica, who will be left for me to look down on?

By the way, did anyone see the piece on FashionEnthusiast.de about the new vehicle being released as a matching set with the 'T'? (ignore the signage, apparently, that's just camouflage for the test prototypes)...
