Spotted an ad in the local craigslist photo gear section, about a large camera collection being sold off. Emailed the seller, asked if they had any Leica gear sitting around. Got a reply that they were not familiar with Leicas. Asked for a list of gear, was told I could set up an appointment to come look at it. Figured it was an estate sale or something, and asked where the collection was from, seller responds "Oh, I've been collecting cameras for 30 years now, just decided to sell the stuff".
Some kind of weird scam, or is the "collection" a pile of crap plastic point and shoots from Goodwill?

Sounds like the latter to me. I run into that type of comment all the time on many different items.

The best camera is one that still works!
How the hell could you collect cameras for thirty years and not know about Leicas ... yeah sure!

Maybe he only collects Deardorffs and the top end Ebonys.
But I agree that Agfa Clacks are more likely. But it might be fun to drop by. Be sure to let an M hang from your neck.

Best I can do is a III or IIf, but yeah, I might swing by out of sheer curiosity.

Watch that step!
Hell.......don`t underestimate anything, with what I`ve seen popping up at estate sales lately from 0.95 Canon lenses to WW2 Leica`s and Rolleiwide`s
Might just be a box full of brownie`s N junk but it`s ALWAYS worth going to look at
If there`s any Leica there that`s GREY with a bunch of lenses and filters, in an old US Army bag it`s just an illusion......buy it for $25
....and I`ll give you $1,000!
I`m crossing my fingers for you, GOOD LUCK!
And don`t just look for Leica, look for Rollei`s and Leica Copies too, Canon, Leotax, Tower, Kardon and old RF Nikon`s etc.
(and if there is, play DUMB and don`t hang an expensive camera around your neck, best to play down that you know anything about cameras you get the BEST deals that way)
Tom
PS: The beautiful Leica IIIC K Grey that I formerly owned was found by it`s present owner on San Francisco Craigslist........SO ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!
