UPS updated their site. It's now due in tomorrow, which means that I'll likely find the door tag when I arrive home tomorrow eve and pick it up at the dispatch on Wednesday.
I'm too busy right now to be stressing about it... ;-)

My "Street Strap" neck strap and Kiwi lens/filter adapter showed up today. I now have everything I might want for the X2 ... hopefully the X2 will be here tomorrow or the next day. ;-)

There's a box on the desk next to me just received from Dan Tamarkin which contains my new black Leica X2. I will not open it until I arrive home this evening. Milking the anticipation for all it's worth ...
Actually just too much to do today already, I don't want to be distracted by it. :-|
I'll get it set up tonight and bring it to the book signing tomorrow evening for a first outing.

Sweet! Just opening the box is an experience, so take your time opening it and marvel at the design of the box! If you take really good care of the box and packaging, it will reward you down the road.
Can't wait myself!
Looking forward to your first posts!

My God, You've just redefined the word patience! I would've had that package apart in a nano second! Enjoy the X2!
Monochrom
Well-known
AF speed!
AF speed!
Hi, yesterday i had the oportunity to test extensibly the AF system of the X2....
I owned for a time the older version, X1.
I was surprised, the AF is way faster than the x1....
It´s great impovement on the camera performance and if you get a decent contrast on the subject you´ll nail focus!
So it´s another great reason to buy me one sample....also my friend purchased the original brown leatherette case....which is a gem....
The like chrome finishing is more beautiful that the older semi yellow finish...but the lens ring is chromed but the retractable lens is still black plastic....so it doesn´t look very neat.....
I guess i´ll go for the black version!!!
Cheers!

LOL! I finally had a few minutes to open the box at 11:30 pm last night. Have had no time to take a picture with it yet, but it is a freekin' beautiful camera!
Fitted it with an A&A case, self opening lens cap, Voigtländer OVF, Street Strap, and 32G card. The battery charged up while I slept. I woke an hour late this morning (!) and had to run out the door, but I'm leaving work to head home at noon. When I get back there, I'll update the firmware and put it all together to take up to the book signing this evening.
I can see immediately that this little camera is gonna be a serious picture taking tool. It is just the right size, has just the right controls and is "handy" in that special way that my Rollei 35S was. I'm sure it isn't perfect (neither was the Rollei ... ;-) but I'm very interested now to see what I can get out of it.

For most of the event, I handed it to my partner and he snapped around a lot. The fact that it worked at all in his hands is pretty astonishing ... he's not very camera oriented and never listens when I try to tell him how to take a sharp photo. However, I took a few photos as well and he got some good snaps too.
The X2 is a delight to use, and it's going to get a lot of use.
BTW, the "Street Strap" I bought for it is just about the best neckstrap I've tried in the past 20 years. The only problem with it is that now I want two more of them for the other cameras... Oh well, at least they're a lot less expensive than the A&A Silk Cord neckstrap.
(The book signing went wonderfully ... great time, good people, and sold six more of my book!)

My X2 arrived two days ago, and I just barely had time to set it up and take it to the book signing last evening. I handed it to my partner and gave him the assignment to document the event and get a picture of each person with their book ...
He's not a photographer. I set the camera on Program and EV compensation to +.7 to compensate for the gallery's white walls. Had to teach him how to release the shutter...
Here's the result, assembled into a two minute video, straight out of the camera with no image processing at all:

Looks like this is going to be one heck of a camera to work with.

Godfrey, very, very nice! I love the short video and it looks like it was a great event!
I need to discuss how to do a gallery like that...
The X2 is certainly very good at that, isn't it?

Thanks! I'm pretty jazzed about the whole thing ... the book signing, the camera, the photos Felipe took, the video ...
Felipe is NOT a photographer at all, but with a few moments instruction he started making some nice photos with the camera. I can see the progression of how he began to see photographically once I directed him to shoot a photo of each presenter and their books. Tells me a lot about how to motivate people's vision ... !
Dave, creating the video was a piece of cake. All the photos were dumped into Lightroom 4.1. I sorted the set (about 70 shots) down to the 35 I wanted for the video and put them into a Collection. I used Photoship to create the front and back title pages (just write text and format it centered, set the page color to off-white) and exported them to TIFF files at high resolution. Added those to the collection in Lightroom.
Then from the SlideShow module, I exported the slides as a video and shoved the MPEG-4 onto DropBox. Easy.

I promised my wife the Canon G1x I just bought for our last trip was the last photogear I will be purchasing this year. But you guys are not helping! I feel the need to get a black X2, as my black MP refuses to go in the same bag with the Canon
How difficult is it to PP raw for thoset that are lightroom challenged? Last time I borrowed an M8, I was wowed by the colors and overall image quality with little to no post processing. Is the X2 comparable?

If you set your camera up for best results to begin with, sometimes it only requires program mode, then very little PP if any is required.
Go here and read about the X1 which has the same image quality. These are all jpegs IIRC.

Then go to flickriver:

http://www.flickriver.com/search/leica+x2/
It is the best camera for OOC image quality with PP that I have ever used.

I don't know as I haven't done any image processing on X2 exposures yet.
But why be Lightroom challenged? the X2 comes with Lightroom so it's easy to get it and start learning how to use it. Piece o cake.

Pat, I agree with Dave, X2 files come out very clean and render colors super close. I would say it's better than M8 since it has less noise (because of the filter in front of the sensor that M8 doesnt' have) and you don't have the IR issue. Use lightroom, its easy and fun. I always start with Auto white balance and auto exposure in LR4 then decide if I need to manually adjust more. Noise and sharpening is my last step. I would recommend you shoot both Raw and Jpeg, then if you can't get the raw to look like you want it you'll have the jpeg out of the camera to use, the camera does an amazing job on processing jpeg. Have fun!
