I haven't shot much with the Elmar recently, but here are a few Summitar photos from June 2018. All were taken with a Leica IIIc, a coated Summitar from 1949, and TMax 100:
I love anything Leica. There's something about the Summitar rendering that I feel uneasy about. The plane of focus can be strange at times. I don't have this lens, but I like it when at infinity from the photos others make with it. Specialy the tone.
It's a lens I rarely use wide open, but at normal apertures I find it sharp enough although not so much in the corners, but I regard the results as generally beautiful - there is a serenity about it and the tones are those of medium contrast that reminds me of my dual range Summicron.
I own both Summitar and Elmar, but I prefer the red scale Elmar f3.5 for its surgical details and its definition.
I don't know, Summitar didn't take me at all. Elmar red scale did.
