The goggled 35mm lenses were designed for the M3, which does not have 35mm framelines. The goggles bring up 50mm framelines and widen them to a 35mm POV. If you remove the goggles, the lens will not focus properly (as has already been pointed out), you would be looking through 50mm framelines, and your parallax will be completely off.
Is it that the lens won't focus properly without goggles, or just that the field of view is incorrect without them? It seems as though the rangefinder patch is going to line up the same through the goggles or not, right? Curious about this...thanks!
Hmm. Why are the goggles removable on some?
That's just the 50mm close focusing dual range lens.
On a 35mm lens, goggles may be removable for storage, or for when scale focusing is fine and the bulk of the goggles is not wanted.
Either through careless spelling, or to be humorous. 🙂 As in the Barney Google song?Second question: why do some call them 'googles?' 😉
