Hi All,
I'm new to this forum and new to rangefinders.

I've returned to film after a few years away, the reason being that I took my dusty old Pentax P30t with a 50mm to a wedding as back up camera and just loved the results.

As I didn't want a film camera to directly compete with my dslrs I plumped for a rangefinder, to fill in the smaller-than-a-dlsr-camera gap (my carry everywhere is a DP1), and went all out for the R3M with 50 f2 and 40mm f1.4. I'm a guest at another wedding in six weeks so plan to take the R3M along as I don't want to get in the way of the pro or his shots so have a little time to run off a few rolls first in prep for some street syle wdding snaps.

Here are a few of my observations, which I'd like comments on..e.g....am I doing it right!!!

1. To speed things up I'm going to expose for each scene then stick with the settings, being carefull not to over expose for bright lights and the dress.

2. As its going to be a fast moving day I'll probably try and stick with around f4-f8, purely for focusing latitude. I don't think I'm ready for hyperfocal just yet. I also find that keeping both eyes open helps me focus quicker.

3. I'm torn between pro 160 and 400h.....?

4. My biggest bug is the 50mm f2. The 40mm f1.4 is so easy to place your fingers around the lens guide handles for aperture and focus. where as the 50mm just loses me as a newbie to this type of lens. Is this just me being new?

Comments really welcome guys....

Welcome.

Just leave the 50/2 at home. Since you like the handling of the 40 and it focuses closer, there is not much you can do with the 50 that you cann't do with the 40.

I do recommend to get an ND8 filter though and shoot a couple of 40 close up portraits wide open (outside on 160 ?). Prefocus the lens, and move your body, both eyes open.

Enjoy !

Roland.

Thanks for the tips. I'll give it a go 🙂
