Lens hood question

Has anyone used a non-xpan lens hood on the 45 or 90mm? I know... heresy, but I'm having a hard time justifying $97 for a plastic hood.

I bought one of these in 52mm because I buy wider filters to avoid vignetting. I shoot 99% panoramic with the xpan.

You might check out KEH.com. They have (had) a couple xpan hoods for a reasonable price. If you haven't used them, look in the panorama section. Good luck.
