I agree, it is interesting about the lack of mention for the ZI stuff. I think once they get around and build a reputation there will be more interest. I would expect that prices will start falling as the Hong Kong prices seem to be very good. And, there will be a used market fed creating another lower price arena for this stuff.

Oh, man. I'm out of touch for a few days and I miss all kinds of fun.
I have:Jupiter8(non usable right now), Jupiter8 in Kiev mount(probably the best 50mm I own right now),Industar 26m, Industar 22 Collapsible, Industar 61.
Have coming: Jupiter 12 and Jupiter 9
Want: Umm, the lenses to fill out the spots in my turret viewfinder(28mm & 135mm)
and some thing wider(maybe the Orion 20mm).
Been a few days since you mentioned it Gene-how's that passing gas attack going?
It had to be said, Rob

Rover, I was very surprised to find that the whole Zeiss Ikon line is cheaper at Robert White in England than it is here in USA. Usually it's the other way around. So, Hong Kong is not the only place where the prices are lower. The ZI body is $145 cheaper at Robert White! The difference is not so dramatic with the lenses, but they are all cheaper across the pond. . My guess is that we are seeing the effects of the falling dollar. I think that the Zeiss/Hasselblad operation doesn't want to keep raising their prices the way that Leica does, so they are setting them high in USA out of the gate as a hedge against the dollar.

Have: Summicron 50.

Kris, judging by MTF numbers, the Zeiss 50 & 35 are both significantly improved over the Zeiss G lenses wide open, making them as good or better than the Summicrons in contrast at f/2. I think that this is what Zeiss is doing with the higher price point.

I have a Jupiter-8, and would like a LTM 35 of some description - possibly one of the Canons.

When it comes time to get myself an interchangable lens rangefinder, I know exactly what I'm going to be looking at.
35/1.2 CV
50/2 'cron
75/1.4 Summilux-M (I can dream.)
90/2.8 (I *can* dream, can't I?) Elmarit
There are reasonings for all these lenses. I shoot mostly street photography/nature and this range of lenses will be perfect. The 35 is plenty wide enough for landscapes, the 50 is great as an anytime lens, and the 75 and 90 will be great for portraits. I could also want the 135/4, but I'm not really sure I'd use it all that much.
The 'cron, as far as I know, will probably be the first lens I end up buying.

You've chosen some lovely lenses, Stephanie! Maybe a little heavy on the long end... RF use seems to bring out the "wide" in everyone, and many of us (myself included) end up thinking 35 is about "normal". I mostly use 28 and 35/40, so when I put on the 50 it feels llike a short tele. Have to keep backing up to get the framing I want... But we'll all settle on some favorites that depend on our own vision, so... whatever suits ya!
