Due to a serious case of constant GAS, I troll our classifieds daily. Just about the most common statement in our classifieds is: "Only shot one or two rolls" or "never been used". I actually know that as a rule we are not crooks or cheating about condition, etc. but can it be true that almost everyone only takes a roll or two before selling their item? Lets be a little more creative. I like the one on another forum: "I hurt my arm and can't carry my camera anymore" or "my fish eat my trigger finger"

Akiva,
Just about everyone has GAS around here, they buy a camera and shoot a couple of rolls and then, back to classified it goes...
Soooo, it's probably true

I would not have believed it at first but I can testify that it is true.
I just took some test pictures with 12 different 50mm f2 lenses in LTM and M-Mount on my Leica M3.

What are those guys talking about?

There was one thing that I wondered about: we're all photographers here and cannot say the *bay refrain, "I don't know much about cameras but it seems to work" But considering this, how often do test shots get posted?
When I sell things on the bay, I always include test shots taken with the equipment. Apart from showing my lack of skill with a camera, I'm sure it helps to prove that it works and can give an indication as to quality particularly with lenses. I certainly like looking at test shots myself even if they're meaningless: I guess it helps to inspire confidence in the sale. Does anyone else feel the same?

Forget about "...I have only shot so many rolls, etc, etc..."
How about the irritating and meaningless description of a camera's condition as "Great"! What does that actually mean? We have a fairly well established condition classification wording in use (Mint to User) and introducing alternatives creates uncertainty and suspicion. The sad thing is that a number of dealers advertising in classifieds are using this... non-descript description.

Creativity, entertainment, all the hype of a used car commercial.
I try to hit them all.

I always post test shots taken with the lens or camera. My Ebay auctions tend to do well, and I figure the time and effort to shoot test pictures pays-off.

I see items for sale which were for sale three months before. Two to five rolls shot could be true. Could have changed hands about 4 times though.

I have to admit buying/selling/trading many lenses that really only have had a few rolls shot with them.
I'm trying to make a solid resolution to quit switching equipment up so frequently - but there are so many interesting lenses to try!

eia41,
"Great" is one of the choices in the ad setup parameters. Who cares how it is stated. Everyone's idea of a rating is different.

I just sold a lens that I bought a few weeks ago. I shot only 1 roll film with it, honest and then the fish eat my finger.

I've churned a lot of gear in my RF learning experience. Most of it I did not keep for long. It left my hands as new or nearly new as when I bought it.
Actually, I'm always afraid to rate items as highly as I think they should be rated. I'm afraid some dust speck freak will come along and tell me it's not "like new" after all.

I need to sell more stuff. I've put a couple of rolls of film through each camera. I could shoot 100 rolls in a year, and only put one roll through each camera.
But I did use 12 lenses with the roll of film today. It was 36exposure.

BUYandSELLCamera ads are uploaded nightly and indexed by Google. RFF ads are not.
If you are selling something easily found, it will probably make no difference. But if you are selling something unusual, why not advertise it at BUYandSELL as well to get high Google search results?
case in point. the Voigtlander 125/2.5 Macro in Canon EOS mount is about as easy to find as hen's teeth.

not bad for a free ad.

Akiva, it probably is true that only a roll or two of film has been shot through the camera, because we spend too much time on RFF to go out and shoot.

I bought a mint- RZII Pro67 last month, promptly shot one (yes ,1) roll with it and sold it last week for a net loss of $100. Buy high, sell low. I'm trying to shoot at least two rolls before selling.
In the old days when I was working my as_ off I could not afford more than one camera and one lens (M4-P, 35mm Cron). Now that society has deemed me ok to enter the middle class I get GAS on an almost daily basis. Go figure?
