The problem is that it is so small that my buttery fingers would still hit the front element:rolleyes: . I always do that cause of the way I carry my M with wriststrap. Another reason why I use a hood;) .
Too bad. That's not a problem for me as I use good quality UV filters on the front of everything and I have "fingered" those up quite a bit. :D But easy to fix with a t-shirt or whatever... ;)

Sorry for some of the pictures being less then ideal.

It's the one that comes on the LHSA hammertone set. Won the Hammertone set from the LHSA this year. Bought 5 tickets for $40 and won. Never seen the asph before this.

I have that same lens (bought separately from Tony Rose/Popflash). I see that you've also forgone using the tacky (IMHO) retro hammertone hood in favor of the standard plastic/rubber! :p

I was having flare problems with the round retro hood and deceided to go for the plastic hoodwhich resolved the problem. I never paid much attention to the asph 35 before this and never noticed what hood or the style of the lens. Actually I've never seen one of the standard asph summicrons in person other than this one. Is this the same design as the chrome standard lens?

I could see how the round retro hood is less effective @ blocking flare. I've packed it away mainly because of the ergonomics & size, but I'm glad that the regular hood is better functionally, too. 5 years ago, I had the regular black ASPH 35mm Summicron, so I don't know exactly how the LHSA version differs from the the regular chrome, but I think it's just minor stuff like the overall shape of the lens barrel & aperture ring (the ridged edge, etc.) that are different--I'm sure it takes its styling cues from the vintage Leitz lenses but the chrome finish is the same.

It looks a good bit like the v1 summicron that I had a few years ago but a heck of a lot sharper and better illumination.

here's a size comparison of v4 / v5 crons

here's a size comparison of v4 / v5 crons

35/f2, left is Canada V4 pre asph, R is V5 asph, German. Both at min focus, face down. the v4 is just a tad longer than a rokkor 40/2, the v5 is quite a bit heavier and 1cm or so longer, but quite a different feel and balance. The 12524/12526 hoods are about the same rect. size.
